HELP! Eclipse iPod w/the AVN5435
Does anyone know how to do this (and please walk me through it) so I can get the text up on the screen.
I don't know much about wiring...where do I plug in the power source (to a 12v permanent supply?)
I feel stupid asking, but it's better to ask than do something wrong and break s**t.
Thanks, guys!

I've really heard bad things about the ipod adapter with the 5435 (I have the 5435 too). I've heard that its SO bad, that not only is it not worth getting, but it is a pleasure NOT to have. Instead, hook up the ipod to the VTR cables. Get a mini to rca cable and problem solved. To listen to the ipod, just plug it in and turn on VTR. Good stuff right there...my opinion

I'll make it simple.
1) The ipod adapter for the eclipse 5435 is absolute trash.
2) Go to radioshack or a store comprable and ask them for a mini to rca cable. Take that cable to whoever installed the unit and tell them to run that wire from the 'vtr' input on the unit (which is the rca end) and run the other end of the cable (the mini) to someplace convenient for you to put your ipod
3) All you have to do to listen to your ipod now is turn on the unit and go to 'vtr' and enjoy!

From what I can tell all you need is a 12v power supply... im not sure cause I cant find a good picture of the back of the unit.
Before you do this, make sure you dont need a negative on that console.
The positive in this picture is a constant positive. The negative is switched, but the harness 2 to the right with the multiple cables in it, all of those that are black (someone correct me if I'm wrong) are constant negative. So if you need a negative, you can use that.

What I said to do is exactly what I do when I have friends, brother, etc in the car with an ipod. I dont have one myself, but I have the wire run and I hook it up whenever they wanna use it, works great! The ipod adapter does NOT!

I agree, from everything that I have read about this unit its better to just run a cable.
But, I think she still wanted an answer after you made that suggestion, so I gave it.
Just trying to help...

My issue if you were being rude to someone that was trying to help you, next time why not say 'thanks, but I really want to get this thing working'
when she said "if only that were in English" she used a turn of phrase to mean that she didnt understand what he meant. Which he understood and gave her a better description. So leave this thread alone and let her figure out what she needs and if she doesnt understand, to ask for help. Thats what the thread was created for.

Lets drop it fellas, 1, that quote is starting to get too long, and 2, by getting this thread locked accomplishes nothing other than locks somebody out of adding something to it in the future or even if kaceycash wants to follow-up....so enough!

Sorry just realized I was a bit snarky and did not read the thread correctly.. Guess I should take a midol and call it a day eh?
Sorry again just dealt with a ton if aholes today and kind of a little on edge..

Anyone have any good ideas where to run the mini-to-RCA cable? I was thinking to the glove compartment and leaving the iPod in that little compartment, but then I would have trouble powering the iPod if the battery life is almost dead..
I'm considering putting it right beneath the head unit, where the little slot is (where you can put CD's, etc. in), but then I can't think of a place to run the mini-to-RCA cable since there's no hole in the slot. Any ideas or suggestions on what other people have done?

I don't believe that you can just hook up the mini to rca cable if you want visual as well. The way you did it will only get you the audio. You need an ipod adapter for the eclipse unit to get the visual (have the ipod communicate with the unit)
