Default How do MP3 Data discs work in the stock HU?

I recently burned a data disc for the car. I made it in Nero Express and put everything into named folders. When i put it in the car though, everything is referred as Folder 1, Song 1, Folder 1, Song 2, etc. Is there any way to make the name of the folder appear on the screen because i feel blind when i gotta keep clickin through folders and songs to find something.

are the .mp3's just named or are they all also ID3 tagged? I'm willing to bet the HU reads ID3 tags rather than the file name

I think you may be right 'cause mine all give complete names, etc., but they are also all ID3'd (I won't even bother mentioning software - none of it's Windows).

only way is to edit the ID3 tags on the mp3's themselves.. that's how it shows up..

then once you've edited them.. then reburn the disc and voila! it works

Ok, well how do you edit the ID3 tag's on the mp3s? And then, what do u have to do to the folders to get them to show up on the screen with names too.

edit them via something like winamp mp3 player, open each one and edit it.. I don't think that you have the ability in Nero Express to edit them..

This should work if the files are named and you named the folders. When in NERO, make sure you name the cd under label. The default name is NEW, change it to whatever you want (i.e. Summer Mix). Also make sure you finalize the cd so there's no more data writing possible. Try that and let me know, if that don't work I'll burn a cd and do step by step.

Well, i did all of that except for finalizing the disc. I don't wanna try it again and waste another cd if it isn't gonna work. I made it using Nero Express, data disc, then i just made folders and dropped them all in. Didn't work that way. Will finalizing the cd make it work?

Ok, didn't know you were using express but it's still almost the same. Make sure you uncheck multisession disc and then at the bottom click more and under write method check finalize disc. That should work. I'd burn one for you know and give the thumbs up but it's 3:25am and I'm not going out to my car. I'll check back tomorrow and see if you got it and if not I'll do it but I'm positive it's the finalizing of the cd. You may even want to put one you didn't finalize in and finalize it and you may be able to read the names.

im not shure but its probably because u are making a data disc with mp3's on it instead of making an actual mp3 disc. the data disc with mp3's should still play but won't sho any info. when using nero make shure u clik make mp3 disc under the music symbol. i think that when u use that function it enables the ID3 tags which shows all the artist name and titles. thats the one i use and all the info shows on mine.
the discs ur making is the making is prabably the wrong format.

Not sure if your version is different (it shouldn't matter) but a data cd and mp3 cd is the same thing no matter which you choice. Both are still an ISO type cd. Go to nero burning rom (which is the more advanced layout), there's no choice for an mp3 cd cuz it's the same as data. It's only in nero express (the wizard layout) to help people that don't know what they're doing.

OK, burned a new mp3 cd and finalized it to try it out for you. I get in my car and I see 1 and 1 I'm like WTF. You have to press the "TEXT" button on the HU and then you'll see the info. I think you can press it a few times and get different settings. Hope this helps.

Dude, it has nothing to do with the ID3 tags. Read what he says it's saying and sit in your car with an mp3 disc and hit the text button a couple of times and you will see your names turn to folder 1 and song 1 and so on.
