Default how to wire subs and amp?

OK. A friend gave me his sub/amp set up. However I dont think that it is wired up right. I could be wrong, most of the ohm, impedance, etc. is beyond me.

Here is the set up.
Speakers:
2 x Rockford Fosgate P210S4
Info:10" 4-ohm subwoofer
50-200 watts RMS
peak power handling: 400 watts
frequency response: 20-200 Hz
sensitivity: 85.8 dB

Amp:
Kenwood KAC-7201
Info:150 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms
230 watts x 2 at 2 ohms
460 watts RMS x 1 bridged output at 4 ohms
stereo or bridged mono output
4-ohm stable in bridged mode

Right now they are wired in stereo

if the subs are wired in stereo then they are correctly hooked up for that amp. Each sub is getting ~150watts rms.

This is true, it's a shame you can't run them at 2 ohms in mono to offer up more power, but to be honest, they'd perform much better on 3-400 wRMS per woofer. Either way, if you need more help let us know. But so far it sounds like you got it!

there is a mono switch on the amp but I guess you have to run it bridged at 4ohms? Is it not stable at 2ohms? Are these speakers worth keeping and replacing the amp or is the amp worth keeping and replacing the subs?

EDIT: I think I found a problem. there is a high pass/off/low pass switch on the amp. it is set to off now so i am getting the whole bandwidth through my subs. when switched to low pass it automaticlly goes to mono. so i dont think this amp was meant to run 2 x 4-ohm subs. correct me if i am wrong.

here is the manual online: http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/Man...113KAC7251.PDF

It looks like the amp just sums the input signals L+R when the switch is set to LP. You can still run the amplifier with each sub connected to each channel of the amplifier.

another question. If i have two 200W RMS 4-ohm SVC subs in parallel to make a 2-ohm load hooked up to a mono amp that delivers 400W RMS x1 @ 2ohms does that mean each sub is getting 200W or 400W?

ok, so if the subs are rated for 200W RMS should i go for an amp that is 400W rms x1 @ 2 ohms for or should I go higher/lower? Would an amp that is rated for 600W rms X1 @2ohms be ok, or would I blow my subs?

Go with 600 or more. Those subs will easily handle 300 each and if you have a 400x1 2-ohm mono amp, you'll max out the amp and get distortion and clipping before you utilize the max wattage your subs can handle.

Go with 600 or 800x1 2-ohm mono amp, you won't regret it.

ok if i am going to get 1 sub for the amp listed above(460 watts RMS x 1 bridged output at 4 ohms) which should i get:

50-200W rms @ 4ohms SVC

100-500W rms @ 2ohms DVC

100-500W rms @ 4ohms DVC.

you can use a 600w or more amp all you got to do is adjust your gains

NO thats wrong. You will regret it. Get the 400 x 1 @ 2 ohms You want to match the rms rating of the sub with the amps output. Going over the rms rating will cause the voice coil to heat up and will fail prematurely.

If what you have listed is the ohm load for each coil then you want to get the 2nd one (2ohms DVC) and wire the coils in series which will present a 4 ohm load to the amp and you will get the most out of you amp.

Why must you act like you know everything? First you call out tcguy for using 1/0 for his Big 3 instead of 4AWG, which was wrong, and now you're trying to convince this guy that his subs will be hurt by anything more than 400 watts. It is a FACT that amps begin to clip and distort at a level of output that is more than their rated RMS. His subs will accept more than 400wRMS, I'd bet they would take 400wRMS EACH without much effort.

@Original Poster, disregard combatsteve. Ask anyone on the forums, more headroom on your amp is better. Rocketgyrl (our local audio expert) will come in here and tell you this if necessary.

and wire the coils in series which will present a 4 ohm load to the amp and you will get the most out of you amp.

FALSE. On an A/B amp, like he has, you will get more output from your amp if you present a 2 ohm load to the amp. Two 4ohm SVC subs wired in parallel to make a 2 ohm load will get the MOST out of his amp.

Actually I think this guy was right here because I was talking about only wiring up one sub to my exisiting amp. A 2ohm DVC wired in series.

Here is my plan. All rockford fosgate. Take my two subs that I have now 2x P210S4(4ohm SVC 10"), and wire them in parallel to a P6001 amp(600W rms x1 @ 2ohm). Then get either a P312D2(500W 2 ohm DVC 12")or P2D212(200W 2 ohm DVC 12") and wire the coils in series to my existing amp(460W rms x1bridged @ 4ohms)

Thanks for the other advice though.
