They won't rust. The entire car was coated with a rust protection before it was assembled so that is the least of your concerns. Just seal them with silicone if you want but they won't rust.

Sounds like the amp to me. I hate to keep saying the same thing and sound like a broken record but to me it seems as if maybe a channel on the amp is bad that is causing you to pick up that noise. What happens if you switch your A/B RCA's with the C/D RCA's is the whine there as well or is it eliminated? One thing is if it returns and you do hook up the sub the one good thing is that the whine should be eliminated once again. The reason is because the sub has a larger coil so the resonance of whine will not be enough to move the sub coil thus you won't hear any noise.

I'm not ignoring you ecko, and I was planning on calling eD asap about the amp untill I made my most recent discovery. Now I'm just gonna wait untill the sub comes, see how it all works, and if I still have problems I'll give em a call. But I really appreciate all your help :-)

I wish I had yours though. The radio cover would still work if you have a double din that is not motorized. I loved the Pioneer F90BT, it fit like a charm and I still could use the radio cover. With the 7120 I can't use the radio cover as it hits the unit and won't close over the radio. If I move the radio further back on the brackets the radio cover works but the radio won't open. It sucks!

lots of good info in this thread. i'm actually going to reroute my ground wire this weekend to the reinforcement bar that you guys point out. i noticed since i dropped a line driver into my setup, there's a definite alternator whine going on.

i hope relocating the ground wire fixes the issue. i've already swapped out the amps, grounded the RCAs to the head unit and checked all other points.

just out of curiousity, where did you guys get your ground wire terminals? i'm having a hell of a time tracking some down for some reason...

hey as long as this thread has been bumped, I might aswell update. I got a replacement amp from eD today.... it didnt fix the problem :-(
Now I'm ____ed that I wasted eD's and my time replacing a perfectly fine amp.

Either way I decided to try regrounding the head unit and this actually seemed to help alot. the alternator noise was completely gone for a while but came back at times. I think I will try to look for an even more efficient grounding spot for the HU and I will update again after that.

Its kinda strange why you have all of this noise. Im running a bigger system than you (Also ED) and im running the same grounds as you. The amp ground is the back bolt for those baby carrry things and the preferred ground for the avicd3 given in the diy. I cant figure out why you still have noise.

yeah its pretty f*&#ing ridiculous lol. There is no reason I should be having so many problems, but alas...

I think I found an even better grounding spot for my HU, i didn't feel like firing up my engine though so I'll update on the status of my alternator whine tomorrow.

okay the new HU ground helped a lot. The alternator whine is gone! finally. The only thing im still really thinking about is that quiet hiss the speakers give off. Its only audible when the music goes quiet or is paused so its not a problem, i just dont know if its normal or not lol.

When the music goes quiet that is normal for the hiss. Just means their is power flowing to the speakers. But congrats on the no noise! woot! haha now oyu can enjoy your setup haha

Indeed. I'm actually sitting in my car now listening to some tunes while typing this on my phone haha.

I need something to let me plug my car battery into the wall so I can listen in my garage without ever worrying about draing the battery. My cars audio is so much better than anything in my house I enjoy music so much more in my cold garage than in my warm room haha

if you have a buddy that has an amp you should also try to swap out your amp see if it's the amp that's could be the problem.

yeah, what i've found with most of my installs in the past, it's normal to have a little bit of "white noise" inbetween songs. the only thing i've ever found to reduce this is installing a line driver and setting it to the proper voltage. it can help to reduce the noise floor quite a bit. the only problem is, if you set the voltage too high on it, it can actually make matters worse. i'm glad the ground wire relocation worked out for you. as soon as my order from knukonceptz comes in, i'm going to ground to that spot and see if it helps my current situation.

Where did you ground the HU to eliminate the whine? I have alt whine and i also cant figure it out, though i have a F700BT. Thanks!
