Default install one sub or two?

So I had received a Sony XM-1S amp and two Sony GTX120L 12" subs from my older relatives this weekend. I want to install them in my 09 tC, but I'm not sure if I want to install both of them together.

I want some kick out of my system, but at the same time, I don't want to overwhelm the actual song (I'm running a carputer on stock speakers, no headunit).

My car is also my daily driver, so I want to be able to maximize my trunk space as much as possible (for when I need to haul a lot of stuff, gotta be able to fold down the seats). If I were to do a dual-sub system, would it be safe to disconnect the subs from the amp (but allow the amp to be turned on/off?)

This is my first car, and my first time dealing with subwoofers. I've read all about the building and electrical aspects of it, but not with sound and space.

I would really appreciate some advice as to what I should do.

Thank you for your time!

upgrade stock speakers, use both subs, and just hook up a bassknob if you want to control the bass from song to song; i use a kicker bass **** for my amps and works just fine

I have a single 12 in the back and it's a little much for me.

I'm a broke college student. If I could, I would change my speakers, but it's not gonna happen anytime soon.

The Sony XM-1S amp (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...ony-XM-1S.html) doesn't have the RJ-11 jack to plug in a bass ****. I have been told that I could just get an RCA level controller to adjust output. Is this a good idea?

^^if you ever go to switch speakers go to sonicelectronix.com that's where i've gotten ALL of my components for cheap. and if you want to go the bass **** route, there's one that PAC makes. what you do is right before your RCA's get to your head unit (in your case car puter), you connect those rca's to the bassknob and then the other set running out of the bassknob to the unit.

i have 2 kenwood 12's with a 600 rms amp, and i have the subs facing up towards the rear hatch window rather than back. sounds so clean and deep. I love it. and when you wanna show off you can turn them up they get pretty loud.

So then is it better to have the subs face up?

^^^correct; the sound will hit up against the hatch and at the angle its at it will more so 'project/reflect' off the glass to the front. i actually did this with a few of my set up's to see if it was true and it would meter a little bit higher. at one point hit 3db higher. we did this with my buddy's car ahd it raised it 1.7 db's

would it make a difference if i have the cargo cover on (therefore covering the subs)?

yea; the sound will actually hit the cargo cover and basically dampen the sound. sort of likei f you have your house speakers facing out and someone stands in front of it, the sound will still be there but wont be as loud or will have a 'muffled' sound to it

Its pretty amazing how sub placement makes a big difference. In my tc i made a custom round box w/alpine 12" and replaced the spare tire, it faced up towards the glass. It was a sealed box and gave nice clean bass. I wanted to try a ported box but never got around to that. I used to have a dodge ram 4 door truck that i used the same alpine 12" at first i had it facing up in between the rear seats and it wasn't bad, but then i made a custom down facing box and sound output was much better.

^^^yea trucks facing the subs down is the best way; i had an explode 10 in my old ranger (was cheap crap for something small) and had it facing between the seats (single cab) and got 2-eclipse 8's and downfired them and made a big difference for sure
