Installing PS2 - Electrical Guru Needed
I am trying to hook up a slim ps2 to my avic-d2. In order to power it, which would be the preferred method and why?
Method 1:
Purchase one of these:
and plug it into one of these, and attach the wire ends to the ground and battery.
Method 2:
Get a power inverter and just use that:

I personally dont like using a/c inverters in installs unless absolutly necessary. Hardwiring it will work great and allow you to hide everything without being limited on wire legth at all. Plus you wont have to worry about where to mount the inverter, which isnt a big deal but still something else to do.

Is the first option safe? I know that the vehicle uses a large amount of power when you start the engine, I just don't want to fry anything if I use the first method for connection. I know those AC inverters have a shutdown/overload protection so nothing will blow up on me. Could you comment on that?

When you install the cigarette adapter just make sure to fuse it with a 15 amp fuse or so. Then if for some reason something does happen your fuse just blows. Thats an easy fix for that, but if that adapter is ps2 specific then there should be no issues.

That adapter is ps2 specific. Thanks for your help. One last question. Will I need to wire a switch in line? Or should I be okay with just adding a fuse so that when the car is started nothing blows?

If testing out an accessory circuit is something your not comfortable with, then a switch might be the easiest to do. Just use the 4 gauge white wire as a power source. This wire is located behind the pop-out door where your fuse access is. Its up and to the right a bit. Like I said, just make sure to fuse it.

i use ur first option, works great and more simple plug and play. much more safer than rewiring or ground inverter. plus i dont think the ground inverters will run at 8.5 volts.

Okay, I ordered the parts for method 1. As far as the accessory circuit goes, would an example be the power that runs to the cigarette plug in the car? If not, what is an example of an accessory circuit so I may connect it to that one.

Cigarette plug is one, thats the one i'm tapping for my Ps2.
I didn't really read much but the first four and last posts, but I'm guessing you're putting the ps2 slim in your glovebox? Easiest location IMO. Adapter works fine tested it for a week in a car with a compatible HU.

Hey troy. I have since installed my ps2 without using a power inverter. In the past, people have experienced noise interference in the speakers from the inverter. I used method number 1, and it worked like a charm with no hassle.
