Default Kicker SS65.2's?

Anyone know anything about them? I'm very tempted with an offer right now for around 250ish or a tiny bit above.....i think they originally retail for 600-1000? i have polk db6500s and i'm lookin for a significant upgrade. please let me know if you think this would be worth it. i need help asap!! thanks

ps i googled it millions of times and the only 2 reviews i found were on sounddomain so i dont have any clue what they're like so far...and i dont have any stores around me that stock em so i dont have a chance to listen to them.....

then for $250, you might as well get them and then send me the link so I can get them too and complete my Kicker conversion in my box.

Are you using the stock speaker locations? If so, I don't think you'd get enough of an improvement to warrant the cost. If you've got them mounted in kick panels set up for SQ, then the investment might be worthwhile. I feel the kicker's are a step up in quality over the polks, but I'd rather have the polks in an optimized location, than the kicker's in the stock location. FWIW.

That's not really a solution, although some people seem to feel it's an improvement. When the tweets are in the A-pillars, the arrival times for those frequencies are very different than those from the woofers. Placing the tweets in the A-pillars helps to equalize their pathlengths, but the woofer pathlengths are still far less than optimal in the stock locations. Additionally, the crossover topology is optimized for the woofer-tweeter relationship, in regard to placement. When the drivers are mounted close together, steeper slopes are better (and most companies design their component crossovers such that they're optimal when the drivers are mounted very close), but the sound can often be greatly improved by using a 1st order (6dB/Oct) LP filter on the woofer, when it's located a great distance from the tweeter.

In case you don't care about all that, I'll make it a bit more simple. I don't feel the upgrade would be worth the time, trouble and expense, if you intend to mount the kicker woofs in the doors, even with the tweets in the A-pillars. If that's the config you want, just mount the polk tweets to the pillars instead. You might then try bypassing the polk crossovers for the woofs, and using air-core inductors of the appropriate value in line with the positive leads, in order to further improve the sound quality. Next step would be KP mounting of the woofers, and beyond that the kickers with both the woofs & tweets in the KPs.
