Default Kinetik vs. Optima

Im pushing about 1500 RMS and I think its time to upgrade my battery. My first choice is a Kinetik HC2000 but maybe an Optima Yellow Top would better suit my needs. The bat. will go in the stock location and be used for cranking as well as running tv's, hid's, xbox, yada, yada. Please advise.

Kinetik > Optima

I just put a Kinetik HC1800 in my tC. I don't even think that the HC2000 will fit our cars.

Optima's a great marketing company. However, their batteries are junk.

Why you feel you need one of these batteries? Please read this thread:

neither the battery doesn't supply the power the alternator does upgrade that, don't waste your money on a battery.

2400 go big or go home and yes the alternator is the core; the battery does help to a point but then the dreaded voltage drops.

optima batteries arent bad just pricey. also i've run the red yellow and blue tops no failures. if you can get them cheap then do them also dont use their side terminals those i'll admit are crap because they are just thin extensions of the top terminals. if you had to chose an optima get a red

upgrade ur alt ftw but he didn't ask that. he askd which would be better. excessive amperage i heard is a good company to go with

FYI......I have had problems finding Optima in stock in stores.....

And finally a shop manager told me they went to a military contract and are no longer supplying batteries to general public.......looks as if what is in stock at stores is what is there.......all of our Sears stores have just about runout of all but the blue top marine batteries.

I would say go with another battery brand as who knows if they will restock anytime soon........

Cheers,
Because when I have the volume turned way up sometimes the front speakers seem to not be getting enough juice. The thread u linked to was argumentative and not very informative. Maybe u could take they time to explain. Im not an SPL guy so Im trying to find the best option for MY needs.

a battery is not going to get you any more juice because it doesn't produce power it stores it.

Is your voltage dropping significantly when the volume is "way up"? If it is not then you just need a stronger amp. The battery is not going to make your amp put out more power. The best advice would be to get an higher output alternator otherwise frankly you will be wasting your money.

The first question is what guage wire are you running to your amps? Then have you done the big 3 upgrade?

Have the people that voted USED BOTH PRODUCTS???

I've got an axe to grind with Optima - after more than 3 no-warning failures - I've got a right to b!tch. I hope that everyone avoids Optima's (incorrect) marketing, and does their homework to see if they really need a deep cycle battery. The short answer is probably not, and as I've mentioned before, there are several other batteries that are better suited for cars with "big systems", additional lights, etc.

I suggest anyone that has determined they need the benefits of a deeper cycle battery consider the following:

http://scosche.com/efx.aspx?CategoryID=51

http://www.kinetikaudio.com/

http://www.svrbatteries.com/

and you might want to add a Batcap: http://www.batcap.net/

Cheers!

Do you like to listen to your system with your car off?

If yes, Optima for sure. Don't want to discharge a non-deep cycle battery over and over again....made that mistake in the Neon. 3 batteries in roughly as many months in ND...in winter. I dunno, I was a dumb child

Kinetik is WAAAAY better than Optima. The problem with Optima is that it has a higher resting or charging voltage than most alternators, which keeps it from getting a full charge. In order to charge a battery the charging voltage has to be higher than the the voltage of what it is charging, so an Optima battery cannot every be brought back up to full power potential which severely shortens its life span.

Kinetik also has much better technology, their HC600 battery is half the size of the Optima red top and if you look at the numbers still has more amp hours. I'm running the Kinetik HC1800 under the hood and two HC800's in the hatch and have no power issues. I truly love Kinetik batteries.

I feel that Optima has just become such a popular name just like Kleenex has become to tissue and Dyanamat has become to sound deadening material. Even though Hushmat is a better product IMO most people still say Dynamat just because it's more commonly known and people know what they're talking about, just like if someone blows their nose they're normally be offered a "kleenex" instead of a tissue even if the tissue they're given isn't the Kleenex brand.

hmmm funny thing about kinetik (I should know i work for a shop that is authorized optima AND kinetik) and one kinetik hc 1800 is equal to 2 optima G31's (should be since it is more then 2xs the price)... We did a test (with fluke clamps and meters) it is true that kinetiks rest at a higher voltage, but after multiple discharge and recharge we noticed optimas were returning to their full capacity FASTER and held their rest voltage more stable where kinetik was actually losing its charge faster and the rest point was going lower...

In defense (we sell oddessy and batcap) of all the batteries BATCAP out performed all of them we put a bat cap 2000 up against a Kinetik 2400, straight swap on the system and with the batcap we scored 1.2 DB's higher on a Termlab meter...
