i think you're heading in the right direction. These would look even better after you're done with the makeover. Can you use the same font type Scion uses for the letters "tC?" And white LEDS would be nice. Any chance of CF? I have CF door sills with custom tC lettering in white, but lights make everything look so much better. good job

Think your on the right track with brushed aluminum and three short lines on each side. The factory tC font is probably the best way to go unless ya find one the majority likes better. Keep these alive-they'll sell like crazy.

There should be no such thing as "site sponsors". If companies want to advertise via banners, great. They should pay for that. That's what the ads are there for.

Charging everyday people to post about the stuff they dream up and want to sell? Or provide a simple service to people who are either too frightened or unskilled to do themselves? That right there is just piddling on your own community and stomping on the little guy. I will never condone it or give my money to an outfit that has that kind of policy. It's a slap in the face to innovators like Ninja. But that's just my dumb ole opinion, and luckily scions are popular enough to get the word around by plenty of other means.

Enough thread hijacking. I'll probably get censored by the Forum Gestapo anyway.

Ninja, interesting concept, but I gotta agree with others that it looks kind of cheap - but i've said that before about other stuff only to be impressed with it in person (i.e. the Black Cat Customs gaugefaces for the tC). The tC logo itself should be the same typeface as stock. That'll attract way more people.

If you could figure out a way to modify the aluminum OEM sills to glow like that, you'd also have a winner on your hands.

Site sponsors are the reason you have a forum to whine and complain in. If I could just post in a random forum about my products then why would I bother with a bannor? Ninja quit being an "everyday people" when he decided to market a product for sale. He's engaging in business which means he has to pay to play. I'm all for this kid to get stuff started and make a nice product for us...he just needs to go about it in the right way. Support the community, not just your pocket.

This is a free site for the members, but it does cost money to run. They pay for it with sponsor money. If you take out a classified add in a news paper you have to pay for it...whats the differance here?

"Or provide a simple service to people who are either too frightened or unskilled to do themselves?" I assume you're talking about yourself with the LED swaps??? I hope you're making a few bucks, and that if you do you send a little of it to the site in thanks for allowing you to advertise in your signiture.

Another site I hang out on has a big classified section for used parts(Ford)...whenever I sell anything there I send a small portion via PayPal to the site to help with the bills. Most of the fellas do...it's just a nice thing to do.

Yknow what, you're right. But I guess that's why sites like Craigslist exist as well.

Honestly, my big beef with SL isn't the fact that they are asking for money, even from regular people like me. I agree with you in the fact that if you have a service to sell, you should pay to advertise it.

But damn. You could be nice about it. This forum has an overabundance of mods and "supermods" that are literally teenagers that possess the tact of a hammer.

That right there is why I don't give this site my money. The mods here don't know how to put on a smile before asking for it. Instead, they just pull the post from view and say something like "Alright, buddy, if you want to post ads like that you're going to have to sponsor us by giving us money." Hell of a way to treat a prospective customer.

That's how I was approached when I posted something about my little LED swap thing. There was nothing nice about it, there was no "gentle instruction". Just a harsh tone from a zealous teenager.

If I were a shopowner and one of my salespeople were to approach a potential customer like that, he would be fired on the spot.

You want my money, treat me with respect.

His comments are right on the money guys(mods). Having said that most of yall have more tact than I do @33. Keep up the good work. Scionlife is hands down the best brand/model support site i've ever seen. However there is always room for improvement. This philosophy is what makes Toyota/Scion the best car company in the world. And its also why we are all here. To make em look, sound, and perform better.

I barely post here, so have not had too much exposure to over moderating...I'm sure it also helps that I pay this site a pretty good chunk of money

If some pimplefaced kid came into one of your threads and slapped you around then maybe you should have taken it to the next higher up person on the chain. Fact is that you broke the posted rules of this site. They may have over-reacted, but you're the one that broke the rules.

You say they were not polite to you, so you in turn will not be polite to them...very grown up Maybe you should get in touch with one of the fellas that runs the place and make terms with them. You'll make the money, cause this place has the traffic. Do the right thing and either pony up for what you are taking or go away. What you are doing now is just hypocritical.

BTW, I could care less one way or the other as neither you or Ninja has any effect on my bussiness...I just think it's stupid for you to be here at all if all you're gonna do is badmouth the site. When I get lousy service I just don't go back.

That isn't at all what I said.

I did take it up with the top brass. And he was VERY courteous about it.

I have simply politely declined giving them money because of the treatment I received from a couple of moderators here. The moderators are a reflection of Scionlife. Breaking the rules is one thing. Scolding someone while asking for money is quite another.

ScionLife is a great resource - but it has its problems. One of those problems is young, overzealous mods who take great pleasure in throwing their weight around. It already soured me to the point where I don't want to give a great resource my money. And I'm sure i'm not the first - or last, if these mods keep doing the things they do.

I could care less about the politics of your issues with SL...I hear plenty of people have problems with this site. What I take offence to is you bashing the site while soliciting customers from it. Right is right...if you or anyone plans to make money off this site on a commercial level then you should expect to contribute to the community that allows you to make money.

You say you're a little guy...so am I. I have a day job...work on my own car...am too broke half the time to do the things I want to. We all start out little guys,

Either edit your signature and carry on with your anti-mod crusade, or leave it be and shut up...anything else is just hypocritical...IMO of course.

Have a good one...

Hypocritical?

Pot?
Kettle?
Black?

Apparently you care a great deal or you wouldn't have rallied to their aid.

Right is right, and the way *I* see it, I don't want to give my money to a site that uses hothead teenage mods to scold me while asking for my money in the same breath.

If they want to ban me for my opinion or for breaking the rules, they have every right to do so. If they care about my MONEY, they will treat me with respect. Once that happens, they will get my business. Simple as that.

They can ban me for being beligerent/breaking the rules or what not - OR the people who run this site and HIRE these hotheads will see they have a problem with how some of them deal with people.

One way will get my business, one way won't, and the choice is entirely theirs.

Guys, I'd like to redirect this back to on-topic in a minute.

First I just wanted to note that I was really happy to see that ScionLife now offers a $20 a month option for this kind of thing. If you want to try selling something for a month or two you won't have to invest a LOT of cash to do it on this site. I definitely intend on making use of this at a later date.

Ninja, why not throw down $20 and see how your new sills do? At least for one month you can promote the heck out of them here, link to eBay, a web site, whatever you'd like. Honestly, an idea bred of this forum and its members could be nurtured here as well. Give it a shot, see how she flies! If you don't like it or if nothing happens, you can always cancel.

what exactly am I doing that's hypocritical? How much more drama would you like to drum up?

You don't like the way you were treated by a mod, so you quit this site and find another that will allow you to leech off them and their paying sponsors...oh no...that would be the decent thing to do. You can do that right here

My point is...if you have a problem with the admin of this site, crusade til the cows come home...call em every name in the book and backbite all you can. But don't try to leech customers off them in the same breath...that's just plain wrong.

I'm sure you feel bitter about what happened with the mods, but get over it...as it is they are allowing you to run a semi/shady sort of business off their site. Be glad you're getting over on em.

GUYS. I'd like to redirect this back to on-topic in a minute.

IceNine, I'm sorry if you were treated poorly by someone in a position of power on this site. Hopefully it won't happen again. I'll go ahead and apologize for whomever it was. If you have further problems with them, please talk to one of the super mods. They're good about keeping us in line. If you still have trouble, you could talk to Darren personally (sn: ScionLife). It'd be a shame to lose ANYBODY on this site due to mis- or noncommunication.

Let's keep this post on topic, shall we?
