Well within 5 minutes of emailing tech support, Chris Schempp from Elemental Designs responded with the following:

It replaces the foam compartment to the right of the spare.

It will fit a speaker with less than 3" mounting depth.

It's finished with a textured black coating on top, nothing on the bottom/sides.

Looks good! Wow, 3" Mounting depth for a sub is crazy compact! Even Pioneer's compact sub has a 4" mounting depth.

 

and how about the SQ10's power abilities... in the right hands, it can handle 400+ watts... just havta be careful and know the in's and out's...

 

that fiberglass box = no good. Looks like it could use another coat of filler and a good sanding. Oh well jmo tho.
