Default Panasonic Strada CN-NVD905U Navigation System

Does anyone have this system? Or has seen it? I read about it on the Panasonic website and want to know how it compares to the AVIC Z2 and the Alpine navigation systems. Anybody head anything?

I dont think its out yet. The features look very similiar to the Avic Z1/Z2 which I have. And I love my Z1.

I'm gonna bump this just to give people some more options when purchasing a unit...I've had it installed for about a week and love it - Nav runs from 30GB H/D lightning fast and the bypass only req'd grounding the parking brake.

only knocks is that you can't save files to the H/D and it only reads CD-Rom mp3/wma data discs but not DVD. Separate adapters sold for bluetooth, ipod, and sat radio. I don't have any of that but I did spring for the panasonic expansion bay in case I change my mind for upgrade slots later.

yes it does play DVD's and can control 5.1 - what I meant to say is it does not support DVD's loaded with only mp3/wma files. Here's a link to a video review http://reviews.cnet.com/car-gps-navi...-32450650.html

I have a question. I read that it only has one slot for DVDs/Navigation... so you can't have a DVD movie in there at the same time as the navigation DVD. However does it have a separate CD slot? No review ever really clarified that. I like this system because from what I read its one of teh better pure navigation systems out there. That's what I want.

Also, did you get your steering wheel controls to work with it? I heard that the AVICs from Pioneer can be set up to work with the steering wheel controls.

How's the sound system compartive to the stock stereo? Better... the same...

Thanks for the info man. Appreciate it.

No problem guys, I fully recommend this unit and will answer any questions I can.

1) Here's a couple pics of the sound setup menu and EQ

2) There is no Navigation DVD, the Nav runs internally off a 30 GB H/D. Therefore you can have either a CD or DVD disc playing in the 1 slot and still be able to access Navigation. And of course with the bypass (ground parking brake) you can do this while driving. I believe updates for the Nav will be sold (and god willing leaked) in the form of SD card since that slot is also in the system. Here's a pic so you can see what I'm speaking of.

3) I couldn't tell you about keeping the steering wheel controls because I only have an '05 (Damn you '06 and up lucky bastards - lol ) but seriously I don't know whether the device to keep the steering wheel controls is sold specifically by brand (pioneer, eclipse, etc.) or generic company. If you can find out what it is exactly I can let you know if I think it would be possible to adapt to this unit.

4) I also upgraded my stock system awhile ago with some Infinity component speakers and a 4 ch amp. but the spec's of the Panasonic say Max power output is 50W X 4 ch (You'd have to look up how that compares to stock) unfortunately it doesn't list RMS. but I'm not complaining at all and the sound I'm getting is clear and crisp.

*Also here's just a bonus pic of what DVD video looks like of from a music vid I burned

Nice! Thanks man.

I like that the buttons are blue... IceNine swapped out my LEDs in my HVAC, gauges and Steering wheel controls to blue... so its gonna match nicely! How much did you get yours for? I've seen a few listed for just under a thousand on the web.

Also did you have to get a harness? And did you have to get something to cover up the sides so it fits nicely? Someone a while ago told me about this:

http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=147829&catOid=-15585&JSESSIONID=F27QCTVqrWvFknyfvtyl57n3rHJtqQ!-1227299273!1161739168668

to fill up the sides. Is that what you used? Again. Appreciate the info.

No doubt your interior is definitely gonna look clean especially w/ the blue matching the outside...The headunit I got for just around $995 online (I've seen drastic price diff. shop around) I also grabbed the standard toyota wiring harness and the same brackets you linked to fill up the sides.

Just a headsup for anyone looking at getting this unit; I found one on cartronixs for 630 dollars and an expansion unit for 25 dollars at circuit city. From what ive read on other sites the blue tooth sucks and since it has no remote our steering wheel controls will not work.

its acutally a very good unit. Ive messed around with it in the stores.
Its bascially a copy of the Eclipse 5510,the menus are a little differant but thats a given.

I really like the HD based nav but it just wasnt for me

I purchased this unit from the cardomain sale they had a while back because the deal was too good to pass up. The unit is great. I had to give up my steering wheel controls but i don't mind that so much. I had also had to modify the stock brackets to get the door to close properly (I originally tried drilling out the detents but it was still sticking out too far, so i slotted the detents another 3/16 and that did the trick). My only wish is that the unit had text to speech (it does however say major highways and exits numbers, ie. "keep left onto I-25 South" and "Exit #225 ahead on the right"). The ipod function is flawless and has an easy menu system to navigate, actually all of the menus are easy to navigate. I didn't have to bust out the manual to learn how to use it. If you can find this unit at a good price then snag it up. I'm very happy with the purchase.
