Default pics - 'VRD' seatcovers !

Hi all, first post here. i was just an occasional lurker to this forum for the past year. i was just too damn lazy to sign up and log in and stuff.

anyway, since there isn't much people(or none) that has this so called 'VRD' seatcover from japan (yes, it's actually made by japanese firm, so i think it qualifies as JDM !!), i've decided to share what i had on my car for few months now.

i got this put on about late march or early april, as soon as the company called 'clazzio' announced that it will carry leather seatcovers for all scion vehicles, adding to their existing toyota seatcover line-ups of their inventory. i found out the corporate office is located really near where i live, so i emailed and actually visited them, inquiring about pricing, fitment, and where do i buy this from. they showed me the warehouse and boxes of the product.

thing that sucked was, i couldn't buy directly from them. they said i can get it from online reseller such as VRD or local scion dealer who may carry them in accessory department. i called and decided to go to manhattan beach toyota, who was selling at MSRP of $499 to purchase. Southbay Toyota was selling for $599. what a rip-off. and i got free installation at clazzio warehouse(i had option to tear the factory cloth seatcover off and do fresh install, or just slip over the existing factory seatcover, and i chose latter option because if i wanted to replace factory seating, then i had to install it myself).

whole process took less than an hour, and it came out pretty tight despite it was just a 'slip-on'. i have perforated leather with red stitching accent (they only have black or red stitching). stitch seams are bigger than what i imagined it to be, but it looks alright IMO. i was debating between black threads, but i wanted little sizzle because interior grew really boring to me, so i got this one and also perforated leather shift boot/side brake cover/armrest cover from Redline, which i really like.

as far as the styles go, they have choices of black suede/black perforated leather/red perforated leather for the center, and choice of black or red stitching accent. only the seating surface is genuine leather, and sides + backs are pvc(vinyl). qualities are close to top notch, and feels great. bit expensive for only being 'seatcover', but in my opinion, it's well worth it if you don't wanna go to upholstery shop and spend fortune.

forgive me about the long post, and here are some pics on my car seat (sorry, car was parked under direct sunlight and was taken with celfon), and a link to manufacturer's website.

I would check your local toyota dealers to see if they carry. or you can buy from vertexracing.com (or even from ebay )

I always think dealerships are rip offs when it comes to vehicle parts, so I'm not really fond of paying them a visit. :D

Maybe I'll make an exception this time....

forgot to ask... bizrule, how does it feel compared to 1. the stock fabric and 2. other leather seats you've been in. i know some seat covers are very noticeable. to the untrained non-scion maniac, would these seats look pretty much stock? thanks bro

i fooled at least 10 people thinking it was a dealer installed leather... lol
then again, they knew not much about tC in the first place. if you get all black, you might be able to make a lot of people believe that these are stock... :D

and for the feel, i love it. it felt ackward at begining(i felt like 1 inch taller seating in my car), but it settled and fitted to the contour of my back within like 2 days. these don't slip around like cheap seatcovers i'vd had in the past, though you'll notice microscopic sliding eventually, which i think it's no prob at all since you can always pull on side to adjust.

btw, thanks for upping the link!

they claim it's really easy to put on, but i had them(clazzio) install for me (for free !), so i wouldn't know. i think printed instruction comes with the package for do-it-yourselfers out there. i recall they sending me a link to self install on tc, but can't find that page.. sorry.

thanks, markymarkcirca. my local toyota dealership said they sold at least 2 dozens of these for scion tC, and i was waiting for the testimonials in SL forum, but no single person came out with the post, so i finally took time to take photos, register, and show here, and i'm glad that i did that.
