Pioneer D-3 + Harddrive = ?????
I was wondering if you can hookup say a 750G harddrive to the D-3 instead of an Ipod? I just figure you pay less and get more from the harddrive then the Ipod. If this can be done... how would you go about doing this? Does anyone have this set up yet? Does it run slow like the Ipod does?
Thanks

No I don't... I already have a D-3 but I heard that there is a way you can hookup a harddrive to it. All I want to use it for is to store music and some movies. I'm not going to waste my $ on an Ipod when a harddrive is cheaper.

well how would you do that? Cause there isn't any software that would support playback on an hd is there? the ipod is already made to just play when hooked up so idk how you would be able to do that unless you are somehow able to format it into a type of media player.

yeah, an idea not very well thought out. Such as how will the HD get its power?, how will it transfer data to the D3?, How will u be able to select what u want off the HD i.e. songs/videos? ....

Well I was looking to get a harddrive cause I'm anti-Ipod due to the fact I returned one and they wanted $150.00 to fix it. It wasn't even worth that much & it was under warrenty. Long story short I wanted it to store music and movies (like the Ipod but not one) plus a HD is cheaper w/ more storage so a PS2 wouldn't work.

YES, you can do it. You need the CD-UB100 USB cable to connect the drive. You also need to power the drive. If you use a smaller laptop (2.5") drive you can find drive housings that will power the drive off of the usb port or a second port that you could then plug into the cig lighter. This way you'd be limited to about 200GB. If you want to use a bigger 3.5" desktop size drive, you need to be more creative for a power source. Either buy a housing that you could somehow power off a 12v source or create your own as these use both a 5v and 12v source.
Bottom line...you CAN do it but I don't know if you'd be able to play videos off it or not. Also, I have no idea how good the interface is but I'd be VERY curious to see what you can come up with.

Well thanks to boostedbox06 I checked out the avic411 site and found out that a guy is using this... http://www.cluboverclocker.com/revie...AVOX/Index.htm but I can't log onto the AVIC site to ask him any questions for some weird reason, so... does anyone know how this would get its power or how it would hookup? I'm not the brightest guy when it comes to cars but I try anyways.

I hit the "contact us" tab on the left and my computer pulled my gmail account automatically to send them a question, I picked scott after I clicked the contact tab, maybe try that?

Why don't you try looking at Vantec's website. They are a pretty big maker of enclosures and fans. Newegg.com might also carry their products. Only trouble is that the AVOX may not support the largest 2.5" drives yet, which is currently around 200GB for a reasonable price.
