Push Button Start ?'s
I was reading a thread earlier today about a push button start that some people are putting in their rides. (I've always had a push button start on my cars; '71 bug and '03 wrx. I just think its cool!) But everyone was criticizing the fact that you still insert the key to give power to the accessories and the ignition, you just stop short of the "start" position when turning the key and press the button instead. So that got me thinking, what about bypassing the ignition switch and putting the key in altogether? Having the acc. on one toggle switch, ignition on another and then a start button. That way you dont even need to put the key in...
There are a few setbacks though. The steering wheel locks when the key is not in the ignition. Thats the major one. Does anyone know how to disable that? I know it has to do with the ignition switch itself, but just curious if anyone has tried it. And the other setback you would think of is if your car's unlocked, someone can just jump in and start your car and be gone. But luckily we have the immobilizer in the Tc. If the key is not in the vicinity of the vehicle, you can't start it. My question is, how close does the key have to be to the car? Will it work is I do this and just keep the key in my pocket? (Kind of like the lexus)
Again, its just an idea right now. You would still need the key to unlock the doors (either remotely or by hand). Let me know what you guys think. Oh and I would be using those awesome, cliche toggle switches with the red flip up cover like "Gone in 60 Sec."

haha why didn't you post it in the thread i started?
Anyways, leaving the key in is a method that is used when installing remote starts, i believe. Using that and an example of the alarm i mentioned it may be possible.
but.. you didn't need to make a new thread, it'll just be harder to get thoughts together.

Pic stolen from nautyblu06
I like the s2000 push button start he put in here! Im also looking for a pic I saw today that had the covered toggle switches. Looks badass in my opinion!
But my main concern is the steering wheel lock and the immobilizer. If anyone has any experience with the two, chime in!

anyone? I was looking at some schematics, seems part of the ignition switch is a transponder amplifier. If thats true, I think the key has to atleast be in the ignition for the car to start...

the locking mechanism pops out when you take the key out, its just a matter of where the wheel is positioned and catching a stop on the wheel or not. Ive looked into taking it apart, it can be done, my worry now is the transponder amplifier...
