Default quick question about silicone vapors and subs

i just had a box made for me and it was finished about 5 hours ago, i read somewhere that it needs to sit for 24 hours cause the vapors from the silicone will ruin a subwoofer or something like that? im anxious as hell to get it put in and would like to know if this is a fact or myth.

thanks in advance

ehh i would wait. there are a couple things that could go wrong. You could damage your box and break it apart when you play your subs. The pressure inside the box will push the sides then you would have to rebuild the entire thing.

Yes..silicone vapors will eat away at the integrity of the softer materials on the sub. At least it used to be that way.

I am reading now that paper is treated against this and rubbers are made with compounds that are resistant to the vapors.

However...I would stray on the cautious side and let it cure for at least 24 - 72 hours just to be sure.

It depends on the type of silicone used and how much (in some instances I'd wait MUCH longer than 24hrs), but yes you should definitely wait, better safe than sorry. The fumes can cause the glue to fail, such that a sub can "come apart at the seams", so to speak, and can also damage untreated foam surrounds.
