i have the escort passport wireless one that can use batteries too...I dont like it, had to send it to escort to fix it once, and the screen on very hot sunny days doesnt show up. the heat obsorbs into the screen or something and makes the LCD turn black until its cool.

I would get a valentine one if I had another choice..

on a side note, i tucked my cord from the dash, into the panel behind the vents and out the bottom so the cord isnt hanging over my dash panels anymore! woo hoo

I have the blue escort pasport 8500 with the hardwire kit. I love it. No problems at all, very accurate, RARELY has false alerts, I have my display on the dimest setting all the time and i can see it in daylight with ease.

It has great options as well. Def 2 thumbs up!
I dont like the valentine 1 since its the size of brick and most radar dects can out detect it. www.radartest.com i think is a good reviews site

Ok, I know quite a bit about Radar Detectors. Never ever get a Cobra. They are the worst by far. It all depends on the amount of money you want to spend. The best detectors for the money are the Bel RX-65, Escort 8500 X50, and the Valentine 1. The Bel and Escort are $300 each, the Valentine 1 is $400. They are for the most part equal. If you run into more Laser I would say get the Valentine 1. If it's all pretty much Radar it's up to you. If that's out of your price range there are others for less. Check out these sites and make your own mind up.

Currently using a Cobra XRS-9500
with the power cord routed under the dash.

Why do I use it? : I don't really feel its my responsibility to pay for additional money on top of taxes for Fat-A$$ city politicians to have pay raises and tropical vacations. Or pay for Less-than-useful cops to sit and hang out at a convenience store and drink free diet sodas and talk on the cell phone. Call me a cynic if you wish.

The pros on this model: Voice alert is more pleasant than just beeping, Auto-mute is a godsend, the display is green which is easier on the eyes at night, and it can be seen even on a sunny day. The Price, for a about $120 you get great features and accuracy that rivals more expensive brands.

The cons on this model: Definitely the damn X-band, I wish it could be disabled like more expensive brands. Radar Detectors still have trouble with early detection on a hill climb, and detecting a LASER is still a hit or miss affair.

Two more reasons to look around before you buy (and dont get a Cobra).

http://guysoflidar.com/radar-detecto...ctor-test.html

The cobra did so bad they didn't even use it in the second test.

Cobra's are cheaper to buy than any other Detector and they are more wide spread. The Valentine can only be bought online, the Escort can be found at Best Buy, and The Bel can only be found at few after market audio stores. Another thing to remember is it MUST be mounted in the right posistion.

I also run the Bel RX-65 and love it. I would reccomend it, or any of the top 3 to anyone interested in a RD.

If it's still under warrenty send it to Bel, if not call them and see how much it would be to do it. Most of the repair prices are pretty good. I would just give them a call and find out. Is it the RX-65 or an older model?
Oh by the way I totally forgot about the Bel STI, it's also one of the best, and it's the only one that can't be picked up by the police. So it's a must for anyone in DC, VA, or Canada.

I am running a V1... Used to be Hardwired, and I will re-wire it sometime in the near future.

For those of you with your RD hardwired where did you choose to put it? I hardwired mine right below my rear view mirror. Has anyone else put there's anywhere other than that?

The original question was what kinda of detector we have and whats good about it.
The V1 has the best laser detection around period. Plus lots of owners love the arrows so they know where the radar source is coming from.

The RX-65 is good because of the display, the audio alerts, the KA detection. Around Fort Riley, KS the police only use KA, nothing else so the RX-65 was perfect for me.

The Escort 8500 X50 is an all around good detector. Not as good as the RX-65 on KA band, but better on Laser.

If those are too high in price I would say get the bel RX-55 which is around $200 and is almost as good as the 65.

Never ever get a Cobra, a K40, or a Rocky Mountain Radar (RMR) EVER! Some claim to be able to jam radar guns, some say they are so great they will pay your ticket if you ever get one. They are all worth about as much as a rock on your dash board.
Stick with Bel, Escort, Valentine, or Whistler.

Mine's next to the mirror, on my side. Semi-hardwired - I have an extra 12V outlet under the dash and run a straight phone cable from there throught the a-pillar to the V1. If I need to take it out, I grab the power adaptor, radar and coiled wire that I keep in the center console.
