or you could just do the speed limit

Just an escort or a valentine 1 should fit the bill just fine anyways.

whats so bad about a jammer, its better than a radar detector,
they also have jammers that are also radar detectors for a few bucks less than a radar detector............

EXACTLY!!! Will live and die by my Escort Passport X50. Only had one speeding ticket in 4 years because of my detector. And that one was because I was stupid and not paying attention (it worked though). Also, if u do get a stupid jammer, don't get the kind where u can set the speed the cop's detector sees. If u set it for 75 when on the highway, that's not too smart if u forget to change it when u get off (I only know this cuz my buddy did this and had a hard time explaining to the cop why his gun read 75 in a 45 zone)!

I wouldnt be suprised if they come out with a detection scheme for that real soon. It wouldnt be too hard to design. As a project in college we built a speed radar, and I can tell you it is VERY easy to determine if something is jamming or interfering with the signal due to the irregularity in what is recieved back. At least when there is other traffic around. It would be more difficult if you were the only car on the road though.

As a side note, we went out and sat on the side of the road with our homeade radar to play with it... it was hilarious to see people with detectors suddenly slow down and look all around for the police car

FYI:
Radar detectors: Allow you to detect upcoming laser/radar guns being used
Radar Jammers: uses a signal to actually jam the radar only (most cops use laser now anyway) to give a false reading.
Now...if the cop is using a laser youre screwed anyway. And they ARE illegal in all 50 states. I think the cops that you are talking about are just cocky and probably use lasers so the jammer doesn't make a difference. Don't let peoples BS fool you...THEY ARE ILLEGAL IN ALL 50 STATES!

I'm wondering if it means legal to OWN in all those states... I could see some states making it illegal to just have a radar jammer in your possession... most others will say just using it is wrong.

active jammers are illegal: http://www.radarjammer.com/
Its a felony, can get you jail time, and thousands in fines. And if you can actually find one that works, it will set off every radar detector around. Including the one in the guys car in front of you *brakes*.

Those that claim to sell jammers, are just plastic boxes with LEDs in them.

*edit*
Oh, but you can legally 'jam' laser. Theyre regulated by a different agency since they use light, not radio freq.

It's a Federal felony to jam or attempt to jam a police radar gun (Code of Federal Regulations, CFR 47, Sections 15:20, 333, 333.4). Radar is controlled by the Federal Communications Commission (www.FCC.gov ).

Due to lax Federal enforcement however, several states - California, Utah, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Nebraska, North Carolina, Virginia, and Indiana - and Washington, D.C. have passed their own radar jamming prohibitions.

There also have even been appeals of the FCC regs in federal court, and the court has held that the FCC was correct in determining that interfering with pollice radar is indeed a federal offense. (http://www.fcc.gov/ogc/documents/opi.../rockymtn.html)

Enjoy!

Tomas

okay i've done tons of research on this in the past, but i will say i love my X50.
Radard detectors are legal to buy and use except in a couple of states like VA.
Laser/lidar detectors are legal to buy and use except in a coupe of states like VA.
Radar Jammers are illegal to use in all 50 states, one of the reasons is radar controlled by the FCC and trust me, cops aren't dumb, your not going to be able to drive 100 past a cop while everyone else is doing 55 and cop go "yeah well the gun had no read out so i guess i won't pull them over."
Laser jammers are legal, because laser is controlled by the FDA. They're illegal in the states that obviously ban laser and radar detectors.
Please don't be on of those idiots that think that because they have all that equipment that they can drive 120 and that nobody can touch them.

(Most jurisdictions also have a simple basic law that while not specifically against radar or laser jammers, works quite well against those using them, without getting in to difficult to enforce/interpret federal law: Interfering with a police officer in the performance of his duties. It has been used many times in many places as the 'catch all' for things not specifically covered - such as jamming their radar.)
