Default Shift **** seems askew when tightened... ideas?

Hi,

I'm new to these forums and I just bought my 2007 Scion tC today.
I drove home, parked the car, and realized the shift **** was a bit loose.
I tightened it down all the way and the **** is crooked about 20 degrees too far.
Wondering if this is normal (doesn't feel natural) or if anyone can suggest a fix...?
Perhaps some sort of spacer between where the base of the **** meets the upper ring of the boot? I'm at a loss... maybe there's something I'm missing.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!! =)

thanks,

Mike

I used electrical tape on the shifter assembly and it took me a few tries to get it where I wanted it... Worked well for me.

The shift **** on my tC is just the standard stock one.
Nothing fancy. =)

I believe above that he has a stock one... I have a GReddy Counter-Weighted one now... but my old one did that on me... the weighted one I just pop the top sticker off and move it when it's off...

The electrical tape idea seems legit. I want to make sure it looks clean though. Did you wrap the shaft just above the boot ring to provide resistance to the **** as you screw it into place...? Or I'm also imagining that you may have wrapped tape until you actually formed a thick ring of tape so as to prevent the shifter from being screwed down further.

No... pop the shifter unit plastic up by pulling on the rearward most parts on the side and put the tape under the ring under to boot... it takes a few tries to get it perfect, but invisible, and works great!

Yeah unfortunately the stock shifter has an ergo grip design to it so when it's crooked it does not fit comfortablly in my palm. Even if it had a cap/badge, which it doesn't, that wouldn't alleviate the problem of the ergo grip being out of alignment.

Maybe I'm just being picky, I dunno. Ha ha!
