Default Speaker Question

I want to buy new speakers and I was just wondering how much am I gonna have to spend to hear a noticable improvement. Also I was wondering what external crossovers are used for. I currently have an avic d3 and a memphis sub and amp.

external crossovers are mainly found when buying component speakers. Where you have the tweeter separate from the woofer. Inside the crossover you will have coils and capacitors to filter unnecessary frequencies for the speaker. It will allow you to place all the high frequencies to the tweeter and anything lower to the woofer.

Honestly I have the D3 and people think I have infinity kappas in my car. I set my high pass filter to 125 and let the subs handle the rest. I am happy with it, and when I get more money I will decide on some JL audio ZR components.

But I think those components that I mentioned got replaced with the C6. No idea, but I will get whatever they have.

What kind of budget are you working for with the speakers....do you already have an amp for them.......do you have a sub and amp .......and what is it......it helps to match up things a bit.

for instance my Comps were over powered compared to my sub.....each comp was gettign 100w and the sub only 250.then I changed to 2 10"subs with 300 to each and my sound is much more even.

Differant brands of speakers are gonna also give differant signature sounds.

Best way to help answer your question is to find out what you have.....what you want and what you can spend.

honestly a nice sounding stereo does not have to be super spendy....it just has to work together well.

If you can, get component speakers for the front. You could also get them for the rear to but most
people are going to tell you not to worry about the rear speakers at all. I got a deal on my components
so I installed some in the rears. And people who sit in the backseat have complemented me on how clear the
sound is. (Albeit doesn't 'sound' as clear as the fronts.) Unless you're buying used, $300 won't get you very
good quality stuff. At least bump it up to $500. (That's what I did.) My whole set-up ran me about $450.
(Just for the amp and components.) Lastly, go to a local audio store (not Best Buy or Circuit City)
and "listen" to some speakers. We all hear differently so what might sound good to me might
sound like poo to you. After you find something you like, check the 'net for prices.

$300 is a good start.go with front comps.......there is no need for backs.....

For good comps to match your subs with good loud clean sound you are gonna need comps that can take about 80w all day long.....that is where the price goes up on them.

Go listen to as many as you can as so many have differant sounds. One brand I know is great is the Elemential Designs new e9.65i great mid bass, takes the power, clean sound, tweeters are gonna be a little harsh, but the price is good as is the warrenty.

But there are also many others out there. This time of year a lot of shops are having sales and you can find some nice ones for cheaper than normal.

I think I am the only person on the planet with rear comps as well as fronts and unless you are in the back seat you cannot tell they are even there.I am gonna build pods to aim them and cover in suede.

is there a big difference between

Alpine - 6-1/2" 2-Way 330W Component Car Speakers

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1166840026793

and

Polk db6501 6.5" 2-Way Component System with External Crossover

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Polk-...oductDetail.do

is the difference big enough to get the polks instead?

if you are really stuck between those two, i would get the polks over the alpine....easy.

however, these sets will blow both of those out of the water in terms of SQ.

Image Dynamics CTX65CS ($180)
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=6201

CDT Audio CL-61A/TW-24 ($150)
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=4418

Rainbow SLX 265 Deluxe ($200)
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=7033

Add in the Elemental Designs Nine.2X....which is on sale for $140 and your loooking at $290-340. http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_...roducts_id=794

Go in and listen to them both.....I listened to the Polks back before I installed my ED comps and they sounded really good and will hold 100w each ....never go by the peak power handeling......they never really can handle that....

The new Elemental Designs comps are less expensive than both and probably will sound better.

god yes those rainbows would be sweet.......I am gettign tired of waiting on the ED comps too.......I know they will be worth the wait,I might pull out my rears and put them in the Yaris and wait to get the others for the fronts of the tC or just get the ID.

I have my Yaris to build and also gonna hand down at least a pair of the EDs and an amp to Brad(importspeed) to help him finish his stereo by spring.
