you mean putting stuff into a ported box?
it helps with airflow in boxes that have either too much airflow and will help in sound. almost a semi-sealed box in a way...

having a bigger box changes the resonance in a box, just like how people prefer to have GIGANTIC boxes vs. people that like to have small boxes that fit the same sized woofers. while the hit may be a bit harder with a bigger box, the accuracy of the hit is sacrificed, and vice versa.
i personally dont have any fill in my box just yet, but once i make a new one and if its less than the recommended size (for a CVR12 sub it recommeds 1cf of space) then i might use poly fill to make it seem like it will acommodate to get 1cf.
all this is to my understanding of poly fill, so please do take this with a grain of salt

bubble wrap is only going to take away airspace.... IF you want to put some stuffing in your box - use poly-fill... it is in the pillow section of Wal-Mart - used for homemade pillows...kinda like cotton only synthetic..
What poly-fill does is absorb / slow some of the waves down inside a box in order to make the sub perform as if it were in a bigger box... most people use it just because and they can't tell a difference...some people who are very serious about audio can tell a difference in a stuffed and empty box..

the techs at the audio shop where i bought my 1.5 cf sealed enclosure said that stuffing an enclosure of that size would DETRACT from sound quality. however, they did say that stuffing a 1 cf enclosure MAY lead to better base. i dont really see the point... i payed an extra 10 bucks for the extra .5 cf, and to me that was the best way to go. all personal preference i suppose.

It's cheap enough at like 1.49/bag to just give it a shot and see if you can tell a difference in the sound. A lot of people buy subs that are too big for the box or a box that is too big for the subs. Polyfill helps remedy the the issue with the box being too small. Really good for trunk floor installations where space is tight and you don't want to raise the floor.
