Default Sun Roof Problems

Starting just yesterday, i've had problems closing my sunroof. I open it, then hold the close button down. It stops about half way, as usual, then I press it to continue closing the rest of the way, but while I'm holding it down, it stops, and reverses all the way back open. This has happened twice or three times already, so now i'm afraid to open it because it may not close.

Anyone else experience this problem?

Brett

it needs some w-40 or lube!

It feels like something is being pinched so it goes back, sorta like your windows, if it feels restriction it goes back down.

But mean while when u hit the half way close and u need to press it again start tapping the button until the sunroofs fully closed. that worked for me until u lubed that sucker up!

I think this is common - Taken from FAQ:

SUNROOF DOESN'T CLOSE

Our sunroof has a safety feature that will open the sunroof back up if it is "stopped" by anything. Possibly if a hand or other body part were sticking out - so that it wouldn't try to close on that body part and someone lose a limb. Well this can start to happen when it shouldn't as you close the sunroof. Occasionally as the sunroof tries to press down the wind deflector, this safety feature will trigger and the sunroof will open back up. As mentioend above, first thing you should do is try your dealer. They may need to clean the tracks or lubricate it. Or you can read through these:

Does it happen when it's really hot outside, in the direct sun? Mine does the same, reverses and won't close, but only sometimes when it's really hot and sunny. Close it until just before it reverses - with your other hand, pull down on the wind deflector, and hit the close button again. If you have the same issue I do, it will close when you do that.

Thanks for the replies! Yes, it does happen when it is hot out, it seems. I'll look into lubing the track.

Thanks again,
Brett

U need to clean and lubricate it either way. And lubricate the top of the deflector arms. The sunroof slides across those and pushes the deflector down when it closes. If they are dry and/or dirty, it will cause enough friction to trigger the jam protection.

Also check for small pebbles, twigs or peices of bark in the sunroof. When I bought my 4runner they discounted it $800 because the roof would not open, got it home and there was just a tiny pebble in it, removed it with tweezers and worked fine until the day I sold it! hahaha.

so iasked my cousin in law what it was since hes a tech at toyota n he said vasalline will do just fine..

also...to clean the area where it slides..i use a tooth brush n car soap when i wash my car...khuz it does get hella dusty n what not..

give it a try!

let us know how it goes!
