Default Trunk Lift Supports are dead?

I have an early '05 and the trunk gas rods are dead. The hatch drops like a ton of bricks.

I searched but didn't see any posts about it. Anyone else? I'm not feeling like 4 year old rods I hardly used should be costing me $55 to replace so I can load groceries. Not yet anyway.

Anyone find them cheaper than the $55 ones on fleabay?
