The shift kit was easy also, little longer to install as your disassembling the dash and tapping into the factory system and ECU, don’t want to make any mistakes. I have to say both are top notch kits but what else would you expect from TRD. I should have something put together on the install.

Can you post some pictures of the shift light kit please. I'd really like to see this. Thanks!
Ditto

Her you go, I have more pictures if you need them and any specific questions either post or PM me. The TRD shifter **** comes with the kit.

I was looking at the TRD shifter and the TWM shifter and I noticed that the TRD seems to have the whole housing and the TWM has just the bar. Is this correct? Does the TRD offer shorter throws or just a shorter shift height? From what I hear, the TWM offers shorter throws and a shorter height. Please reply because I am going to get one of the 2 kits later this week.

The TRD and does not lower shift height the only one that lowers height is TWM.
True the TRD is the whole housing and i think it is pretty easy to install. I think (could be wrong) the TRD is 25%
shorter. TWM is 30%

from what I hear, everybody is happy with the TWM shifter. I have a gut feeling with this shift and I think its the way to go. Also, the price seems like its a lot less.... as of now I am going w/ that one unless someone talks me out of it within the next few days.

The appearance of the shifters height is near the same as factory as the housing is raised up off the floor pan with included spacers. The reach for the shifter will maintain its normal height and appearance. It will not look like the shifter has dropped under your car, you may like that look. The TRD does have a shorter shaft, the length of the arms determines how far the shifter has to be moved. The shorter rod reduces the distance the shifter has to be moved, the longer the rod the farther the shifter has to be moved. .

The TRD shifter includes the whole housing, shifter arm mounted and spacers, which move the shifter housing higher from the stock location. There is no cutting, filing or modifications at all. Everything is a straight bolt in, the capture locks for the cables are identical along with the retaining clips.

I am very pleased with the quality of the TRD shifter and the ease of installation, it retains factory mounting and best of all the warranty. If something was to go wrong with the transmission I will not have to remove the shifter and re-install the factory one. Yes it is more money, piece of mind, warranty and the shifter ****. I have an OBX that I bought, now I can switch off the ***** if I want to.

I hope it helps you make the right choice.

I have the TWM short shifter with a weighted shift **** (a greddy **** that was $30 and has a great feel), I love the feel of the shifter, especially the way it goes into 5th gear now.

I drove a friend's tc that had the TRD short shifter and I didn't like it at all, it feel exactly the same as stock except the stock **** seemed bent more towards you.

TWM short shifter > TRD short shifter, no doubt about it.

Installing my TWM right now, couldn't pry off that spring clip no matter what I tried, so the dremel ate it in 2 seconds. Now I can't figure out how to get the 2 dang black clips back onto the shift ball retainer... They seem to only be on the '07s, maybe the '06s too? No mention of them in the TWM instructions, and couldn't find anything with the search other than "remove and replace" them. Riiiiight... Removing them takes a quick pop with a screwdriver, but how the heck to they go back on??? Pain in the sack they are... Hopefully I'll figure it out in the next few minutes and answer my own question, but man they suck. Also to make the job easier I just brought the whole shifter inside - once you have the 4 lower bolts off, you can pop the clips off the cable ends, then the cable retainers, and the shift cables will pop right out of the housing. Much warmer inside than it is out there! Ongoing edit: Managed to get the 2 black clips out of the shifter housing, it looks like I'll be able to press them back into place from the top when I'm done. BUT - anyone notice how loose the ball is in the socket? I've got a good 1/32" of play up/down and side/side where the ball sits in there. I didn't think to measure the diameter of the ball to see if it was right... I don't think the stock one was this loose, and there's no way to damage the housing to make it this loose. Ugh. Just noticed that the little ball on the end of the left/right shaft is also loose in the socket. (the one that goes into the pivot arm with the spring.) I'm going to take it all apart now and measure the ball diameters. This is annoying. Ok - results - TWM = good, Toyota = bad. The TWM ***** are exactly (to the 1/1000") the same size as the Toyota *****. So, either Toyota made them loose on purpose, or the plastic housings were made wrong. Ah well. Nothing I can do about the left/right pivot, but the main large ball I'll see if I can tighten up. I doubt it though. Maybe the TRD is a good choice then, as they provide a new housing, which I can only hope would have tighter tolerances. I must say the TWM shifter is a nice piece of work though, just wish we could get a nice machined housing for it..... Finished reassembly, installed the 2 black clips (pounded in from the top, they went back in place nice and tight), and there's definitely noticeable slop in the shifter. Wonder if TWM would consider making one with larger diameter *****.. Or some day if I get ____ed enough I'll machine a new top clamp and pivot arm to actually fit....... Final edit: Finished installation in car, driving experience = good. Nice improvement in feel, definitely more solid with the aluminum bushings installed at the base of the shifter. I was going to hold off on installing the transmission-mounted brass bushings (that go on the cable ends) because I didn't want to remove all the stuff that the TWM instructions say.. But, I took a look under the hood and realized that I could install them by only removing the intake resonator thing. I don't have particularly graceful / long arms or anything (LOL), and have rather large hands, but I was able to reach down there with one arm under the intake, and do the complete installation with pretty much one hand. The cotter pins are easy to remove / install by hand, and the "E" clips are a bit tough but go on with enough pressure. Although I did drop parts to the ground a few times. Haven't driven it with those installed yet, but I can only imagine that it will be a good thing. I would reccomend buying a shorter shift boot as well, you can "roll" down your stock one, but IMO it looks like crap. I would have the stock one modified, but want to keep it in case I need to return to stock some day. Ok, I'm done!
