Default Viper Alarms

Hi there, I'm new to the forums! Nice to meet everyone.

I have a 2005 tC, I got it the first week they were released here in Florida, and I've loved it ever since. Well, recently some jerks decided they would steal my fog lamps off of it, so I think it's about time I install an alarm system. I've been researching for a couple of days, but all the alarm systems are starting to blur together.

All I know is I'm likely going to go for Viper Security. What are the major differences between something like the Viper 5900 and the 791XV? They're both about the same price at the place I'm looking at: http://audiovideodimension.com

From what I can tell, it seems the 791XV is an older model... but I could be talking complete gibberish.

Help, please!

The viper 791xv has been around for a while, not sure of the 5900.

I would recommend the Zenesis Alarm http://www.zenesisalarms.com/

they are the same product with the only difference being that the 5900 has spread spectrum which gives it a longer range.

I bought the 5900 off eBay and ended up selling it. I got the 5701 which is newer, is a 2-way like the 5900, easier to install and better on the remote batteries.

Any idea what the average battery life is for the remotes? And what exactly does that little LCD remote display?

Those look really good. How much would a Zenesis with similar features to the 5900 go for?

I just installed a viper 5900 in my 06 tc about a week ago without hooking up the remote start feature, cause i too live in florida and i don't need my car to defrost in the winter.

But i really like the alarm, i choose this one instead of the 791 b/c of its longer range. Now the range in not exactly a mile but i tested it and got about 2000 Ft. and i was in a very hevily wooded area, so its good enough for me. It can reach me when im on the other side of my work building and same with school building.

About the same price but free shipping.

And i added on the glass breaking sensor

Install took me a full day, and i took out the seats and the top part of the dash

I thought they were related to Compustar in some way or another.. Something about Compustar's lead engineer working on Zenesis. I guess they're still completely different companies, though.

Yeah, I'm mostly interested in the SST. About the only thing I can see myself using Remote Start for is cooling down the car on those ridiculous Florida summer days... if it even runs the A/C when it remote starts?

What are your thoughts on the Viper backup battery add-on?

get yourself the 5700 series. I have the 5701. I install these things and I see the 5900 remote batteries die like once a month. The 5701 has no LCD screen and ghost LED's. Also is available for a manual transmission. If you need help I install these things for a living so let me know.

Holy crap, once a month?

What's the remote range like on the 5701? And is there anything I'd be missing out on by not having the LCD?

I was quoted at about $180 to have the 5900 installed. Is this a reasonable price for this system? Should it cost less to have the 5701 installed?

I'm probably pinching pennies here. But I still have to replace my stolen fog lamps on top of getting an alarm system now.

Sorry for the bombardment of questions. Thank you for all the replies!

Car Toys carries the Clifford alarm system with 2 way pager and it costs $400 with install. Clifford and viper is the same thing.

yes its me... im here lol. 180 is a reasonable price for the install. Make sure the install price includes installing the XK module. Now I dont know if you have a mnual transmission or not but the 5701 will also work with manual tranny,

The remote range is a mile with SST technology. Always changing the code. Now dont let the mile range fool you, buildings, trees and even tint can effect the range.

You will not be missing anything if you do not have the LCD screen. Even temperature range is displayed on the 5701.

And robocop is right clifford and viper are the same, they also make python and TONS of other remotes.

LOL at robocop cause thats my dad's friends license plate. He really is robocop with all the metal they had to put him after his tenth motorcycle accident.

The 5900 is 1-2 months. The 5701 is 4-6 months.

The LCD displays what is going on with your car...such as if the alarm goes off, what is open (ie door, hood) or glass breakage. It all lets you know if the car is locked/unlocked and if the car is running no remote start.

The 5701 is 2 way also but no LCD but can tell you temp of inside your car, how much longer is left it remote start timer, plans tones/chips to let you know if it was successful in locking/unlocking car as well as remote starting.

The remote start isnt only for defrosting. You can use it to cool off the car in the blistering heat.
