What are your thoughts on the Viper backup battery add-on?

In other words, when you park your car to go inside the house, you need to have the AC on when you shut down the car (if not on already). So when you remote start, the the engine starts and AC is on...just like if you were sitting in the car with the key ignition but there is no key and no one inside.
Same as if you need heat during the winter months like me in NY. I have the heat turned on before I get out the car. So when I start it up in the morning, car is nice and toasty for me. There is no way to control heat/AC from the remote.

What's the remote range like on the 5701? And is there anything I'd be missing out on by not having the LCD?
I was quoted at about $180 to have the 5900 installed. Is this a reasonable price for this system? Should it cost less to have the 5701 installed?
I'm probably pinching pennies here. But I still have to replace my stolen fog lamps on top of getting an alarm system now.
Sorry for the bombardment of questions. Thank you for all the replies!

The mile range for the 5701 is about 2000 feet. Of course, this all varies depending if you're in a open field or if in a area with tall buildings.
$180 for install is not bad. Best Buy charges $200 if you bring in your own product. 5701 might cost cheaper as it is easier to install...or so I've been told. I bought my 5701 and had it installed for $450. Of course, additional stuff such as sensors, trunk module, backup battery, backup siren will cost additional. My alarm had all its wires soldered. Thats a true installation. Some places might go the cheap way and crimp the wires together.
BTW, The 5900 only comes with one 2way remote. The 5701 comes with one 2way remote and one 1way remote. So if you get the 5900, you'll have to buy another remote and can cost $60-100 depending on if its 1way or 2way.

Thanks, you guys have been extremely helpful! I think I may go with the 5701.
Oh and another question (of course.)
Mattie mentioned the XK module, what exactly is that? Is that how they get the remotes to work with my car?

Ya pretty much. The XK module reads and stores your "code" that is in the key. When you place the key in the ignition and turn this "code" goes to the ECU. The XK sends this information to the ECU when you go to remote start it. If you have more questions please dont be afraid to give me a PM.

It pretty much fools your cars ECU to think that the key is in there when its really not.
