what does th cig adapter thing in the arm rest do?

It will only have power if the key is in the On position or the car is running. If that's the case and it's still not working - make sure you have the plug ALL of the way in - my iGo adapter was kind of hard to get to stay in there for a while.
And if it's still not working, you can easily pull up the center console and see if anything is unplugged.

there's a fuse box under the dashboard near the pedals, it has a cover on it, remove that, and the cover lists what every fuse handles. i believe the one your looking for is cig, or acc, check those and see if they are burnt, if they are not burnt, i would recommend checking all of them. if that is not the problem, take it back to the dealer, thats what i ended up doing when both of my cig lighter outlets weren't working...

To take off the console...
1. Unscrew shift knobby off.
2. Pry right under the HVAC area on the silver sides. Put your fingers/fingernails/crowbar underneath the silver plastic and pull it towards you.
3. After the shifter piece pops up and you remove it from around the shifter, disconnect the lighter/power plug wiring.
4. The piece should slip vertically off completely now. Now just tug hard on the cup holder area in the front where you can get a grip. Tug toward you and it should pop up.
It is like any other body panel...they just pop right off. First piece is very light force. The 2nd part is a little firmer on the holding strength but still is not bad after you do it once.

****NOTE****
i think there are 2 screws in the storage thing under the arm rest that you need to remove as well. make sure BEFORE you tug on anything. it's been a while since i did my short shifter but i think i remember a couple screws there.

I guess what I am saying is....is that still connected to the arm rest...or is that part still connected to the wiring going into the dash?
1. The connector should be right next to it. If not...it has either been pushed into the dash area or cut off.
2. If not, double check that it is not supposed to be plugged into the arm rest side. Just peek back there or feel to see if you can tell if there are any open connector areas where it came off or fell out. However...I would put my money on it being the first thing I said.

Good info! I'm sure I saw that on the wiring diagrams...just never took note of it since I haven't had any blown fuses!
Glad it was just disconnected and not cut off or not there. That would be more of a pain!
...although..I'm curious as to WHY someone would unhook that power adapter unless they used it for some custom work using the same connector...hmm..
