i have seen that before, but i want that setup.

 

o trust me i understand that 2 8's can sound good, im not denying that at all. but frankly 2 8's in a kickass setup vs 2 12's in a kickass setup....ill take 2 12's anyday....you'd be dumb not too. all im saying is that i feel if he's gonna take up the corners of his trunk for 8's, he's already giving the whole corner away anyways, so might as well go up to 12's where you'll get more SPL and lower bass.

for an 8, an RL-I would be my top choice probably. the next reason to step up to a 10 or 12 is because many companies that produce high end subs, such as RL-I's, don't produce an 8" version of their sub. for example.....there IDMAX 10s and 12s, but no 8. there's no 8" rl-p, there's no 8 SI Mag or BM.

you really limit your options a lot by choosing to go with an 8. so much so that i would have to recommend an 8W7 as one of my top choices, even though price wise its only for the richies. if you step up to a 10 or 12, you open your options tremendously. i'd love to tell you to get a 12" mag......but they just arent made in 8's. those who are serious about bass go with 12's for a reason....they're PROVEN. so fill up the corners with subs, not fiberglass, and grab some 12's. you'll be happier in the end.

Thats what most people think. I like running small subs so i can keep trunk/hatch space and still sound very good.

I dont think this guy wants to compete. I think he wants a daily driver that sounds great. 12's are cool but take up some space.

not sayin he wants to compete. all im sayin is.....he wants to use the corners of his trunk to house the subs.....with the amount of space its gonna take to get the correct airspace to house subs, the surface area of that corner where the sub will be mounted will be large enough to accomodate 10's and 12's. with the lack of decent 8's on the market, why not step up to a 10 or 12 where his options open up tremendously?

 

if box space is a concern, check out the Pioneer Premier shallow mount. They come in 8" or 10". I've never heard them so I can't tell you how they sound, I believe they were made for door panel and sidewall application though.

For overall sound quality I'm very happy with the JL Audio 8w7, and will be adding a second for output. They are not real friendly on box space though. JL also has a shallow mount coming out supposedly in January 2008.

True, but ebay is your friend if you want JL and don't mind not having a manufacturer warranty. Some online resellers do carry their own warranty on them, I try to only buy from then. Unfortunately, the original seller of my setup is no longer on there.

 

true in itself....but still the price isn't my sticking point. my sticking point is the performance of 2 10's or 12's versus 2 8's. if you compare to 2 8's to 2 12's....well holy hell the total cone area of the subs jumps from 100.28 inches for dual 8's to 226.08 inches for dual 12's.....that's more than double...there's no denying that difference. and considering the subs are gonna be glassed in the corners of the trunk....its not like some expert 8" setup is goin on here. this is just gonna be an average install, so might as well upgrade to 12s to make up for the loss.

 

Screw 8s, 10s, and 12s. why not just get some 15s

hell nebster last i checked ran dual 15's in his corners......not that it's practical. im a 12 guy though....IMO, overall best SQ comes from 12's.

ive never heard a 6 go anywhere near as low as 12 nor throw down anywhere near the SPL

 

The only reason I'm thinking 8s are because they are going to require less air space when it comes to making the boxs. There for it will take up less space then 10s or 12s. And since the air space will be to spec the 8" subs will sound better.

good choice, i own a pair of those subs. i can attest to the fact that a single 10" Fi Q or a 12" Stereo Integrity Mag can demolish those both in SQ and output. don't believe everything you're told. my pair will soon be up for sale if that tells you how i feel about them.
