Default 2005 Camry 4cyl engine same as Scion tC now?

I noticed that the 2005 U.S. Camry 4 cyl has a new engine in it for 2005.

Anyone know if this 2005 Camry engine is the same as the one in the Scion tC?
Or does the Scion tC have the 2004 Camry engine?

The engine is the same, however the 2005 Camry's will have a new 5pd auto transmission.
Kinda disappointed that the tC won't have the same tranny... but I still love the car...

I would rather have my aggressively ratioed 5 speed then a 5 speed automatic.

Plus Auto 5 speeds arent geared like a manual 5 speed....auto 5 speeds are geared for better gas mileage...thats the only reason for the 5th gear

Gee, I wonder if that means all these neato turbo kits are going to be multi-platform then?

There's supposed to be a new Camry coming out isn't there?
Or was that a Corolla R or something? Either way, it has more HP.

Yeah the Corolla XRS. Basically a Corolla S with the Celica engine and 6pd manual transmission. Should be a nice car, but the GTS has always been a trouble engine.
I just had a blue one throw a rod a couple weeks ago and we just put in a new block under warranty. 2001 with about 42k on it. So I'm skeptical about the Corolla XRS.

The Corolla XRS has 170-173 hp and 127lbs of torque and the Yamaha built 1.8L isn't a bad motor....
It's the people blowing them up, the motor has nothing wrong with it BUT the lift bolt problem.
