Default aftermarket head unit with stock steering wheel controls?

Do you guys know whether or not the stock steering wheel controls for audio, on the 2006, will work with an aftermarket head unit? Thanks. I'm audio system retarded. -Brian

Upon release of the 2006 models there probably wont be a module to make the steering wheel controls run an aftermarket deck.

However, if you are patient companies like PIE and several others usually make adapters that make the steering controls work with aftermarket head units. It is never guaranteed that the adapters will come out for your particular head unit or even for the tC at all.

It just depends on the companies....

im a BIG audio guy, and i can almost promise you it will use brand-specific connectors (read: not universal) for the audio controls.

Every so often, if the car is pop. enough, a company will make a modulator to convert the signals into a uni-read format, where play is undestood just like the remote on your head into an aux remote input on your head unit

Sony makes a specific head unit with a remote (don't ask me the model number, I don't know) that, when wired correctly, will work with the steering wheel controls in a Pontiac Grand Prix (1997-2003 vintage). I don't know if this will work on the 06 tC, some enterprising young installer will have to try it. If you want the model number, do a search in the stereo section over at www.clubgp.com , they're great guys over there and very helpful.

since the mention of the steering wheel controls, people have been linking to this product and may work with the tc's new steering wheel controls and an aftermarket HU: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Y4F8BN1...earch=steering

^^^^^bingo. i have installed these in many cars. Very finiky but they work once they are all configured. I dont think i have seen a brand specific adapter before. i dont see how that is possible considering all the different brands of decks out there

^^^ This was the thing I was talking about. I used to be a car audio nut and did installations, competitions, etc. I knew there were products out there for the integration, but since I haven't been keeping "in-the-know" with car audio, I couldn't remember if they were vehicle/deck specific, or universal as shown above.
