Default Air coming through vents when fan is off

Hello, first post here. I got my tC last Friday and I love it. I have one question though: When I'm moving, air comes through my vents even when the fan is off. I've never had a car where this happens before. Is this normal? Can you stop it?

Just sounds like the vents are open. Try pressing the recirculation button on the HVAC. It's the lower left one that looks like a car with a circled arrow inside of it. If that light turns on, the vents are closed. Keep in mind though, that will not work when you have the HVAC selected to use the front defrost.

you have to press the button for the Recirc, its a picture of a car with an arrow inside of it, right below the A/C button. That will stop the air from coming through the vents while moving.

It's OK, none of my previous vehicles had that thing. But it's great when you're on the highway and you see a skunk or something else dead. Just put your windows up and push the button. No nasty smell.

None of your previous cars had vents? I've been in a 1957 Ford Thunderbird that had vents.

all toyotas allow air through the vents unless you hit the recirculation button. this has been the case for over a decade.

Yep... that button's on for me all the time. Even my old 10 year old Jetta had it.

I solved it.

Pull the vents out of the rear, seal them up with Great Stuff, put them back in, and then put eDead v3 over them. Of course, this makes it so that if you take it off recirc you pressurize your car...

Actually, don't do that.

I had a car "2 cars ago" that had recirculating and outside air modes, but neither mode allowed air through unless the fan was on... it just regarded where the air was pulled from with the fan... So I guess I should have "RTFM"... lol.

Not sure if you have driven it in the winter yet, but you will want to switch it off of re-circ when it gets nice and cold. If not, you will contantly be fogging the inside of the windows. You will notice very quickly when you leave it on becauase even with the defroster on you will see the windows continually fogging.
