Default air duct...

okay...i have an idea...i am buying a short ram intake but i'm only using the pipe with my stock airbox...but i was going tro use a k&n air filter(the square one)...the i was going to run a flexable pipe from the hole on the stock airbox(the one that goes behind the headlight) and cut an air duct on my bumper...should i do it or not?....i thought it would look nice and also give me cold air at the same time....

Weapon R comes with a flexable tube and the piece to put in the bumper........I hooked mine up for a week once and the sound changed drastically..........I still had the roar of the SRI,but I also had a high pitch whistle so I took it off......drove me nutty........so before you cut a hole make sure you do not get weird sounds going on.........the idea is good though............I am still working on using the duct for getting cold air into the engine compartment while still having a short ram...........gonna use the doc I panels to do it.........

Anyone remember seeing that tC with the circular hole cut on the side of the bumper? I thought it looked kind of wack. Wish I could find pics...

is that even practical outside of racing? Looking at the wheels on the car, I may need to say "yes".

That's the one, thanks for finding the pics. I don't see how that big hole is any more beneficial than just opening up the corner vent.

certainly unique, but thats a lot of work for a NA tc. more show than go really.

i don't know why you would want to cut into your bumper (which will probably end up looking ghetto, nowhere near as clean as ^^^that job) when you could just run the duct to the false grill and either cut a hole in that plastic piece or just remove the cover altoghther and have an open duct like the GFI.

exact same function, just less fabrication and $$$.

for one thing....the plastic piece thats by the grill has a purpose...its to keep the air thats going in from the grill to go to the radiator (just like a diversion plate)...and another thing...it will be a longer pipe to the grill from behind the headlight....i don't know about you but i think that blue tc has a CAI which I don't plan to get...

plus that hole on the corner is ugly (no offense to the owner) probably no beneficial to getting "forced air" to a SRI

woah woah, slow down. what plastic piece by the grill r u referring to? if you're talking about the false grill in the lower corner of the bumper, no, it serves absolutely no purpose other than aestetic. if you'd ever looked behind it, you would know, that its basically a little compartment which is almost entire closed off from air flow from the larger grills which feed air to the radiator.

secondly, there is NO WAY that even totally removing that false grill would divert ANY air away from the radiator, and even if so, it wouldn't make any difference. the radiator is exposed to ambient air, it always has a fresh supply of air, unless you block or cover up the main grill, there is no way you could starve your radiator of ambient air.

yes, it would be a slightly longer piping to the false grill cutout than to a hole behind the headlight, but dude, your NA. its not like your going to get pressure loss or anything.

so, where exactly are u planning on cutting a hole in your car's body for the intake duct? not only is that not recommended, it probably won't look good either.

dude, if you want a SRI, just remove the plastic fender extension elbow from the stock airbox and leave the inlet open. that is the least restrictive form of intake that still utilizes the stock box, and it also provides the shortest and most direct route to the TB.

my car has a GFI-style intake, which serves me up cool air, and at speed, i get a nice ram-air effect as the force of the airflow against the front bumper forces air up into the cutout where the intake duct is.

good luck.

i was talking about the plastic piece by the main grill...but see I have fog lights which i don't want to remove (one fog light would look a little crappy)....like i said before...its not going to be a "hole"...i'm making an actual airduct made for either CF or just regular fiberglass

if its going to be as tight as you describe it, you'd better think of a way to put a rain screen on it too, because based on the location you are describing, sounds like every time it rains, you'd get a nice puddle right in the duct.

dude, i applaud your creativity and ingenuity, but don't waste a lot of time and money for something that isn't going to improve performance that much, and may even negatively affect your car (if u hydrolock). just don't let your customization pipe dreams get out of control. keep it realistic and feasible and cheap.

it would really suck if you went thru all that trouble, and realized that you didn't gain any power. now on a super or turbo charged car, that would sound like a much better design.

don't forget band clamps and a few different options for fitting sizes, just in case your first try doesn't work out.

keep us posted, and welcome to the GFI Club.
