Okay, at times when I apply the brakes I often get a grinding sound..I know that its not ABS and often when this happens there would be no reason for the ABS to come on anyway...Plus, it feels like the brake pedal shimmies a little. Anyone with the same problem?

If its a kind of groaning grinding sound and you can feel it in the pedal than it is the ABS. It is very easy to trigger the ABS in the tC. I will often hit it under normal braking to a signal over uneven pavement. I personally think it is way too sensitive and overcompensates. The stock tires are no help either as they are easy to lock up. Better tires will help to reduce the chances of the ABS kicking in significantly.

Does this usually happen after rain/snow?
Your rotors are still made of metal the the top will rust up after a good washing, the grinding sound when you first hit the brakes is just the pad grinding off that rust. And that is normal.

I KNO WAT IT IS! it happened to me too, all u have to do is take off the wheel thats making the noise and reach behind the rotor and unbend the breaking pad off of the rotor, sometimes if u hit hard bumps it bends in and touches the rotor, thats why you hear the medal grinding noise, make sure u look all around the breaking pad to make sure u got all of it straightened, the top of the breaking pad has a curve so dont bend that, the rest basically needs to be straight, u wont have n e more noise after that
lemme know how it goes when you do it!
