Default Anyone have a "trunk" release in their tC?

I'm thinking about getting one. Would they work on a tC? Also, do they open up just a little or do they open up all the way. If they open up all the way, I'll definitely get one.

it's a hatchback, getting a trunk release would be like carrying oxygen tanks, it makes no sense. If you ever get locked in your trunk, climb to the back seat, then the front and open the door... :D

I think they mean a way to open the hatch automatically from the outside. Press a button and it rises. I dunno...

maybe a button in the glovebox that you push and it pops the hatch is what he means

he means a trunk release that allows remote trigger of the trunk.

i.e. you're carrying groceries and instead of fumbling around putting the key in the hole, you press a button that triggers the trunk to release. now, all you have to do is pull it open.

this is often an option with alarms

that's exactly what I meant. I wanted to know that if I got a trunk release for my Viper 791xv, will it function correctly. I thought it'd be pretty cool if i was walking to my car from like the supermarket and press a button and the hatch lifts up. It would be cool but still practical.

project,

i know it's possible with your alarm but i'm not sure what you need. it might hook up directly to the alarm or you might need a trunk release relay. i wont' even have my TC until tuesday so i don't even know yet. if you have to pull a latch to open the trunk, you'll need a solenoid. if it's an electrical push button, you will only need a trigger since there will already be a solenoid installed.

did you install your own alarm?

i plan on doing the same alarm install or the clifford matrix 3.5 which is the same alarm.

I don't think that it would function very well. You would probably have to install a motor to raise the trunk enough for the shocks to open it all the way. I believe the hatch is too heavy to just pop up easily.

My friends BMW has a trunk release on the key that essentially serves the same purpose as the button underneath the trunk handle. It releases the grips on the hatch (or trunk in the BMW's case), but you still have to manually raise it.

That would be good to have for the trunk monkey and all. Right now he'd have to like... push the hatch open or something.

It's a one-wire hookup for the alarm. Mine's got it.

It's about stupid though, just because all it does it pop it. You still have to pull the hatch open, and you may as well just press the hatch button to do it.. I just did it for a while-I'm-in-there thing when I was installing the alarm.

Right... you can't remotely pop the hatch and have it actually open unless you installed some servos or something. In warm weather, a little push and it will open itself (but it still needs the push). Especially in the cold, those hydraulic cylindars don't work so good so it seems to need extra help - pretty standard. Fine with me. When it opens all on it's own, it usually hits the bolts on my garage door... *cringe*
