Default auto dim mirror?

:D Hey Scion guys/gals,

Do you guys think the autodim mirror is worth it or should I buy it later on the internet and install it myself? Is it easy to install or it would be better to let the dealer install it? thanks people!

From what I hear, the installation is a PITA.

To me as I have a (2) car garage, the auto dimming mirror with homelink was well worth the $310 installed at the dealer. I also had heard the installation was a PITA so I just worked it into the purchase price.

Also has a nice reading lamp and cute rotating light colors.

Install of the Scion auto-dimming mirror should take about 15 minutes - no special tools xcept regular pliers for t-taps.

I had to make my own harness because I just used an eBay auto dimming mirror with compass ($70), so it took me about 40 minutes to install in the middle of the night...

So no install is not PITA, and no it's not worth it - you can get similar mirror on eBay for way less and make your own harness.

I have the Scion mirror install manual in PDF that really helped with install.

Default mirror

True.. you could get one on Ebay, but it wouldn't have the cool colored map lights that the Scion one has.. It took me about 40 minutes to install... so simple- even a moron should be able to do it.. just make sure you use all the foam tape they give you to secure the wires.. otherwise, they might rattle later on down the road.. I have 2 garage doors programmed now.. My house, and my parents house.. no more fumbling for garage door openers..

fwiw:

Scion doesn't allow for the combination of side impact airbags and the auto dim mirror. It can physically be done, but scion apparently doesn't want people f'ing with the a-pillar airbag housing. here's a link to a related thread I started......
