Default automatic carwash?? glass roof crack?

In another post, people said they've used the touch free car washes before. well, at teh auto wash where i live, the final dry cycle uses a huge powerful blower thats supposed to blow the water off your car. when i took my old car through it, the roof shuddered under the pressure of the blower.

question: with the tc and its glass roof, should i worry about bring my tc through? i have a feeling something is going to crack under all that pressure.

unfortunately, i dont have a garage, and my landlord yells at people for using the hose to wash their cars. i also dont want to use that self-wash station at the car wash. afraid some crap is stuck in the sponge and ill scrap up my tc's paint. what do you guys think? will the glass hold?

i wouldn't go to an auto wash with your tC.. for the fact that something could smack into that glass.. not a pretty picture. Just wash it with a hand held wand.. less risk.. nothing to worry about i never take any car i've ever had to an auto wash.. no thanks..

i take mine to a self-serve wash.. and bring a bucket and a wool wash mit. washing it by hand.. i usually do it at a time when no one is there.. that way you don't get the people bugging you you're holding up the line.. and then i bring some towels to dry it

you could... always ask a friend if you could wash your car at their house... or just use the self wash station.. and bring your own bucket and sponges. don't forget a microfiber towel too.

always hand wash your car.
never take it through the auto car washes... you'll only regret it in the end.

Yea, the one I go to says laserwash somethign something.. its supposed to use lasers to align itself to your car, that way, it'll optimally wash your car.

I typically hand wash, or use the self wash bay... but i have taken every car i have had through touchless washes, especially here in mn during the winter, and have never had one issue. Just dont go to the ones that touch the car if you go to one.

I use those self wash ones…it costs me $4 dollars total…i bring my own buckets, soap, sponge, and towels so I don’t have to worry about the dirty soap brush….i also use the water setting at rinse so its not too strong and it’s a nice flow…like someone said earlier…go when its not busy so your can take your time, being that you are using your own soap. Just something you have to do when you live in apartments or condos…

I have never had a problem with stand-alone automatic washes. I do try and seek out the newer ones, though. Once in a while, I will use my employers' high-pressure hose with my soap, bucket, wash mitt, and absorber, which obviously yields the best results. I will NEVER take any vehicle through a gas station wash, no matter how great people claim they are.

Since winters here suck for car washing, the only way to go is to have someone else do it for you.

If your car is important enough, wash it by hand! Always is better

Think the guy was talking about the HIGH PRESSURE air to dry off the car after the touchless wash; NOT the wash itself.

Regarding the question, I too have the same concerns because the high pressure drying does seem to want to lift the car or damage the glass roof. I think I am just going to hand wash/hand dry from now on. However, I have taken it through the touchless two times with no problems.

I think you'll hear that rumbling and whatever else you hear/feel from the high pressure dryer in any vehicle. I've taken my Tercel and Escape through those and get the same effect.

I, however, don't know if I want to go through them again. It's just unpredictable relying on a machine to wash something that is the second most expensive thing you could possibly own. It's definitely safer to just do it all by hand.

Besides, with a glass roof, I'd be even more cautious.

Sponge, bucket, and microfiber drying towel (get em in bulk at Costco or Sam's!).

Ive had my car washed about 20 times now in the touchless wash. No problems at all. Only thing Im always afraid of is my rims getting scratched. So I am extra careful with lining up the car to the tire position metal things.

DO NOT go to the automatic carwashes that "touch". I have only gone through that once with my tC, and they used this giant broomstick (same ones janitors use to sweep cafeterias) to brush the headlights/taillights and rear. I have light scratch marks all over those areas now.

(a little off topic from the sunroof, but still carwash related)

I've done an automatic wash a few times, because it was either too cold for me to stand outside and do it, or I didn't have enough time. I usually just go to a do it urself place where they have vacuums and the hose with all the different functions.

Ha...no.

I meant just the towels, not the bucket(s)!

About the baseball comment - yeah, I'm sort of ____ed at Angelos. Yesterday, the Orioles were on THREE different channels. And lost. The Nats were no where to be seen but won. They'll be on tonight though! Channel 20 (supposedly), if you're local!

Peace.
