[quote="TANTALIZEDMIND"]Thanks everyone. I'm planning to move BACK to NJ later this year, and if you don't know.. there are no "open" roads. lol. Even on the highways there is traffic.
I'm sticking with my Auto FM tC. Hopefully the TRD Exhaust + Injen CAI will help out a bit.[/quote

I don't think I could ever own an automatic. I find that autos are too brake-reliant for my liking. I don't enjoy driving around with my foot hovering over the brake. I also don't care much for the sudden jerk of the automatic tranmission downshifting when you need to jam on the gas. From my experience, driving a manual makes you more alert of your surroundings.

i wonder how many manual tCs out there get beat by ATs because of driver ineptitude.
i've pretty much owned manuals til the tc. my last car an audi was manual and about 174hp. my AT tC would blow it away.
personally, i got tired of shifting. it was fun when i was a kid but i drive L.A. traffic daily. it lost its aura.
i thought about this post for a bit and came up with my own criteria for the most part. over about 220 hp and i want a manual....under 200 hp, i want an AT...what's the point of the bother for a middle of the road performer?
all this "sporty tC" bs for a 4 cyl camry motor....i don't buy it. but that's just me. "you gotta get the tC in manual" is absurd. it's a low end performer....it ain't no race car. 350Z....manual. M3....manual. Mustang GT....manual. 6cyl Mustang?...auto.
get my point? it's a freakin' camry. who cares?

hahaha, good point.
anyway, people lets not turn this into an "advantages of manual" thread. the guy's just asking how we like our automatics.
and theres nothing really wrong with racing with an auto. yes we lack a gear compared to the 5mt, but, despite that, there are some advantages. there have been threads on this. things like quick perfect shifts and constant boost.

i've always said that the best way to practice stick is in your own car. just make sure you have someone who knows it in the passenger seat to help you out. don't be like me -i learned in my 02 civic si with no one to teach me. all my friends that knew stick were always to busy with work. lol.

But yeah, from what I've seen and been told, the auto in the tC is great. I'm also lazy and dont have the will to drive stick, especially here in PA(I rarely use the 'speed'pike, so thats out) theres always lots of traffic(usually because people take advantage of the open roads and crash, then other people have to break their necks to look at the smouldering wreck....or theres construction). So, yeah, I think you should go for it

I chuckle whenever I ride in my friend's 5spd tC because he's always on the phone, tries to hold it with his shoulder and tries to shift all at the same time (I guess this is where Bluetooth comes in handy) but anyways...
I got the auto cause I didn't have a choice but also I don't race at all. I do alot of city driving and I really don't mind the auto. The auto is quick off the line ...

i'm gonna go out on a limb here and talk to some manual drivers who responded to this post who haven't actually modified the car for real aside from a bit more air....
"Wow, you got your license, you have mastered the manual transmission, awesome....i bet i beat you in my AT."
i'm kidding of course, but in this car, as i've said earlier, the shift points are pretty much handled as well in the AT in over-acceleration. again, 142 to the wheels for the most part will not make that much of a difference.
and mcgeorge assures me that the sc will be available for the AT. i'll buy one and beat THIS or THIS

um... this thread was about 3 and a half months old....
but i <3 my auto as well.
I bought the tC because it is a reliable, sexy car.
i did not buy it to race in. so i guess it depends on your use for the car.

I have an auto and it still has some power to it. Manual might be a little faster depending on how good the driver is, but I beat a V6 diamonte (when I was still stock) as well as blowing away a civic si (after I got my CAI).
And I can't believe the amount of people here that let their women drive their cars... No one touches my keys but me (regardless of relationship to me or driving ability). I could maybe see if she was your wife and needed it in a pinch... but gf? You guys are out of your minds.

Well some people may have a girlfriend that is going to be a wife eventually and things are a bit more serious and at the point where her opinion and her need to drive really does matter. I am one of those people, but i still got a stick and she is mad, but that is besides the point, lol.
