Not a huge difference to me,

Manual gets about 22 MPG in the city and 29 MPG highway and
Autos get 23 MPG in the city and 30 on highway.

Thats on the 2005

If I had known about the higher final drive ratio on the manual, and the rediculously high rpm at 70-80mph in the manual, I probably would have bought the auto instead. I think the manual is fun, and a touch quicker than auto, but the auto I test drove was still very quick and fun. Toyota put a very nice tranny in the auto tC.

you can actually save gas on manual... depends on your driving... that's why it's manual... there are times that i rev too much... those are the times that my gas bills are higher... keep your shifting in about 2000 rpm... you accelerate slower but you save gas... i'm too undiscipline to do that lol...

but still autos are GANSTAS!

I don't race. I have an AT, and it goes very fast. It will accelerate fast. That's all that matters to me. There are times where it would be fun to have a manual, but I cannot complain about the AT on the TC. I test drove a supercharged manual. It was a blast. But in the end, I still went with the automatic. I have no complaints or regrets.

You'll probably thank yourself later for getting the AT.

i wish i had a stick, the only problem with the manual is gas mileage. with an auto you cant really control where you shift, I MEAN you can, but you have to let off the gas and then let it shift and then go..but with a stick you can shift a 3K rpm every single time therefore gettin better gas mileage.

but i can keep up with manual tC's, and i love not having to shift.

I'm going through a huge dilema right now. I get to chose my transmission and I just don't know what to get. I want to supercharge my tC in the future so I originally wanted the Manual but now that the supercharger is out for the auto as well, I want the auto. I read over this thread a couple times and i just can't seem to pick one. I love the fun factor of driving a manual. I drive my gf's manual civic and it's very fun but it's weak. The tC is way stronger than the civic and if I already have fun driving the civic I would love the manual tC more.

The auto tC is a relaxing and fun car to drive as well. I guess it all depends on the supercharger for me. I can get it for either transmission...I have an auto tC waiting for me right now. I guess I will just go with the auto.

Another thing about manuals is that when the clutch breaks, I heard that it was a hassle to fix. I have also read about manual tCs having some problems with their shifting and engine issues.

I got an automatic since I haven't driven a manual in almost ten years. That said, my car still goes just fine without any performance mods at all: I got pulled over a couple of weeks ago when I was (successfully) trying to put distance between me and some craptastic ___-riding driver. The "driver" turned out to be an undercover cop in an unmarked SUV, but he let me go since I was not only out-distancing him but handling my car well while I did so.

Love my automagic. I'll own a manual at some point, though.

I say stick with AT. I drove MT my whole life and my tC is the 1st auto I've ever owned. Its finally a thrill to drive without the focus on the clutch and the shifting. I mean some people have different taste on what they want. But lets be honest HOW often does the average joe race? Not too much. And it being a SCION you have enough aftermarket support to reach the MTs potential. And by saying u don't have alot of experience in a MT car. U definately don't want to practice on a new car. Also read the reviews by the pros. They even say that the AUTO is as superior as the MT. The throttle is just as responsive. And plus u waste too much time in shifting. Race with ur auto tC stock vs a manual tC stock. ur not going to see much of a difference.

Actually what I suggest you do is get some exp. in manual transmission becuz it isn't for everybody. And drive for an hour or 2. You don't even have to be in traffic or what not. Just drive for an hour shifting. You'll get sick of it. Because on a daily basis your probably only going to be shifting 2-3-4 thats it. 3 gears! And don't forget about the maintenance on the car! Being a noob u can mess up alot of things (i.e. clutch / timing belt /etc.)
