Cant really afford it now. (sadly) I will one day though.
On another note it will be nice to be one of the only back yard built tC's though. Saying I built my engine, not ordered it from a company. Didnt order my fuel system from a shop, fab'd my own IC pipes (besides welding) and had a great experience along the way. Is it the practical choice? ____ no. Not having traction until 4th gear might suck, but It'll be worth it.

I was just at a local subie meet and a new guy came with a 4 door WRX. First time in a 09 WRX (been in modded 08+ STi's plenty times) and first gear was awesome. AWDSEX ride quality was amazing too.

Did the auto trans show signs of failure, causing you to swap to a manual? Or is it just for the fun/enjoyment/efficieny that you're swapping? How much hp/tq were you able to put down through the auto?
Sorry for so many questions and if I missed a lot of info when i scrolled through your thread. I'm just interested in your build. I couldn't pass up on a 1 owner tC for $4K just because its auto. Now I'm missing my '92 GST 5 spd. Two fixes: Boost(first), and trans swap(eventual). Looking at the price of the IPT modified valve body...ouch.
With all of the engine work you're doing...ALL I'm asking about if the ____ auto trans. Sorry. Build looks excellent and keep up the good work!

Auto held up great even on 12lbs of boost. I'd say that was the safe limit though. on 12lbs on a very safe tune I made somewhere around 260whp and 260 tq. Well, one day my friend brought his new 500+ tC out. I turned the boost up to 18psi to see if i could stick with him. First of all, the trans held the entire day. When i was leaving his house i did a burnout and i think that's when it went. Later the next day, it wouldnt shift into any gear but 4th and 1st wouldnt go until like 4k rpm. Instead of building a new trans for $4k i swapped to a 5 speed for $350, and doing a mild build on my engine.
But if you take care of the auto, I'd say 260ish whp is safe, along with a trans cooler and valve body. On 18psi I bet i was over 300whp, with the auto. Which was really f'n fast.
