Default Broken hatch handle problems!

So my hatch handle has been broken for a few months and a few nights ago I got pulled over and the cop said that the lights comming from the trunk were "too" bright. The cop was pretty much bored and had nothing better to do but since I was aware of the issue he gave me a fix it ticket so now I have to get it fixed. So what Im trying to do is get as many people here from the forums to post pictures of their broken hatch handles so that I can go to Toyota and have them fix it for free. Seeing that it is a defect I plan on going into toyota and tell them that because of them im getting pulled over and have to fix my car! Thanks for your help guys and gals!

How is this a defect again?

I had a tC for 5+ yrs and over 85k miles and had zero problems with my hatch handle. It is not Toyota's fault if you are not fixing something broken on your car that causes you to get pulled over.

i have an 05 tC with 82k miles. Although it's still intact, every time i open my hatch i can feel it coming a bit loose. I'm well aware that i COULD rip off every time i open it but im also very careful when i do try to get in there.

Is there a way to reinforce the garnish?

They won't fix it for free even if you include pics of other peoples tC's with the same issue unless you service your vehicle at the dealer often they may goodwill you a free one but that would be up to them. So just go and pay for a new one and don't lift the rear hatch by the garnish piece anymore, its a cheap plastic design that cannot withstand being pulled on but so many times

1) This won't work.
2) It's most likely a result of you incorrectly opening your hatch.
3) I've never had an issue with mine on my 2006.

Don't open the hatch like a strongman and you'll be fine.

Owner negligence is not Toyotas problem.
There is a correct and incorrect way to open the hatch.
Yes, lots of people have had it break. Thats because they open it incorrectly.
Those of us that have never had a problem open it correctly.

Just like everyone else said, search.
We dont need a thread of broken hatch handles.
If you really think you have a case against Toyota, you can simply show them all the threads you find when searching. (There will be plenty if you do it correctly)
