Is the A/C compressor in the tC supposed to be really loud?
My car has a bit less than 5000 miles, and my A/C compressor, while cooling fine, sometimes sounds like a washing machine, especially after a high speed run. Is this just a normal thing for Toyota compressors?

nope no noise here, can't even hear the a/c compressor come on, except for a click when it turns on.. and of course the a/c fan comes on, just a whirring noise..
if yours is sounding bad might take it into a good dealer and get it checked out..

Milano, you have ONE issue.. a bad fuel pump... first I have ever heard of on a tc. He doesnt even know if he HAS an issue with his AC. Please sell your car and go elsewhere. We dont need any more kids on here with zero knowledge of a car screaming fire everytime the simplest thing happens.
Just so everyone knows.. he got a car with a bad fuel pump... which the dealer is gladly offering to fix. So he wants to check out lemon laws....

engifineer, thanks for looking into this thread. My compressor is pretty quiet/normal when it first starts up, but after a good long high speed run, it knocks and whirrs noticeably (like an old GM compressor with 100,000 miles on it) but as the compressor cools off the knock goes away. You know I know what I'm talking about, i.e., it's not "cooling fans" or whatever silly response I might otherwise get in this thread. Does yours do this? I havn't had a toyota since the 80's, so for all I know it's normal for Toyota compressors to do this nowadays. I have no temperature issues, it blows cold fine (for R134a).

Mine doesnt make any noise like you are describing. It wouldnt hurt to take it in and have them go on a test drive with you. There is always a chance something went bad on the compressor. Does it do the same thing if you just sit in neutral and run it up to higher rpms? Or does it have to be hot for it to start?
