fast is a relative term. the tc is way faster than my old 95 explorer, but amoung the rest of the cars on the road, it is just above average in its class. you say the civic si has power that the tc doesn't, i say you don't know how to drive because a tc isn't exactly coming up short against an si, si's are just lighter, and have that vtec that gives you that violent pull forward once it kicks in.
the si is undoubtedly faster than the tc.

si=200hp
tc=160hp

so yes the si has the power that the tc doesnt.

youd have to install a supercharger ($3k+) in the tc to match the si's stock power.
You realize that comparing peak hp numbers is not accurate right? Power curve people. The area under it is what tells you something about a car. Not saying that an si cant outrun the tC (it can), but you cant just compare those numbers. If I produce 200 hp with my tC motor and have a wider power curve than the si, then I will beat it, period. Peak numbers are for advertising.

Drax hit the nail on the head. Listen man Im 17, if your anything like me you have to pay for gas and car insurance on top working and having a life. I wanted to make the tc faster but then i actualy thought bout it and decided if it was actually not worth it. Our car now will get us tickets, trust me I got one back in december it cost me $285 to get it dropped completely(61 in a 45) and my parents wernt to happy. Putting alot of money into your car is just like taking your money and dumping it in the trash can. Just cause you stick a turbo kit on it or h/i/e is not goin to make your car sell for more. Id say dont put aot of money into it, save your money so when you get into college or out of college buy your self a real sports car like a 350z, g35, or hell wait till the skyline comes out in 2008 , not a fwd 4 banger thats all tricked out. The Tc has enough power to have a lil fun. We are in highschool we have better things to spend out money on besides our car. If you spend all your money on your car, how are you goin to go out and do things with your friends?

that is pretty good advice for people in school or with other priorities to take care of.

Myself, I am not in school and see nothing wrong with fixing up a car. I dont buy cars for resale (dumb investment) and I drive em till they drop if they are a good car. I also can afford a breakdown here and there and some mods along the way. I think being practical about a car based on what it is worth and resale is boring and well... dumb, unless you are young and in school. Some things in life are just for fun, and the money you "blow" on that is not a waste if you enjoy it. Money you spend drinking or at the movies is no different than that you spend modding your car. It is entertainment.

got a job,college, bills...

however there is no way I would have drove around on those stock springs
I had to drop it. The stock scion is ridiculously high. Its like monster truck high, IMO they mounted the car so high so that theyd make more money off lowering springs kit

I have my scion dropped with trd and now it looks like normal car height. when I tell people that its been dropped they act surprised because it doesnt look like it

also the 17" wheels are a bit small on the car, 18" is about the right looking size for the car. 19"s are borderline big.

in terms of power its decent, gets me from point a to point b and accelerates nicely. I have decent enough torque to get to 60 MPH fairly quickly with just stock.

I used to drive a 92 benz 6 cylinder and the scion handles and acclerates better than the benz. my old benz was a heavy car, even though it was a v6 it had issues accelerating fast enough to enter the freeway.

Default Cant compare to a Vette.

I dont care what you do to a scion tc, you will never have the credibility as a vette. But then again there not in the same league. I love vettes there my favorite. I think a vette is the best bang for the buck. You can turbo a tc and still be slower then a base c5 vette. I love my TC but if I had the money I would get a Vette.

driving schools in your area must suck then, because when i went, they had the option of learning on a manual, it was just like another $40 or something. course, the auto car was a nissan sentra, and the manual was like a mitsubishi mirage or something...

the vettes are not fun as daily drivers....actually, on the track, i've driven a few vettes, and you can't control the backs of the, tend to have heavy backsides that slide around, and the gearbox is really tough to get through....as a daily driver, i would hate to use that gearbox, but as a track car, its got more to offer by far than the tC.....i mean, you can't compare "high end" cars to entry level cars.....whats the point? if i could drop an extra 50,000 extra on my tC, i bet i could have a faster, better handling car....but i would never spend that much on my car.....more to life than speed....college, career, family, friends, etc....then car, HAHA
