Default Check Engine light codes

i bought a code reader because the check engine light is on.

i got two codes

p0441 (p0441 P) = EVAP Emission Control System Purge Flow Fault

and

p0455 (P0455 P) = EVAP Emission Control Sysem Leak (Large)

does anyone know what these mean and if the dealer will fix them for free?

i have a 2006 scion tc, extended warranty expires in a few months.

thanks

Believe p0455 can be from a loose gas cap.

The gas cap should be covered under warranty, especially since its an emissions item. Free Fix!!!

I wouldn't just go out and buy a new one, just make sure its tight. You can always reset the CEL by removing the negative battery connection for 15 mins.

loose gas cap, could also be a hose loose in the evap system. check evap canister(s) and solenoid. hopefully its just a hose and not a canister or solenoid.

Most likely you need a new OEM gas cap but i would first try to unscrew your old one then put it back on and see if the codes clear.

I got those 2 codes a while back found out it was my gas cap. So i tightened it and they went away. About 6-9 months later i got the codes again and tried to repeat the fix, but the codes never went away. I took the car in for service and had them check it out. they said it was the gas tank pipe that was faulty and needed to be replaced. I was quoted 480 bucks and I promptly asked them to give me my car back. I found out that there was a TSB (don't remember the number) for the faulty gas tank pipe and it would have been free to fix if it was still under warranty.

I just bought a scanguage and reset the code. I do get the code intermittently but I just reset them all the time.

I think I'm actually going to buy a new gas tank cap and see if that fixes it.
