Default Check engine light flashing?

Ok so here's my question now I know usually when you start a car the check engine light stays on for about 2 seconds, pretty common. I just realized though thatmy tC CEL flashes 3 to 5 times right after the car is on and then it won't happen again. I have 4736mi and haven't done an oil change yet ( because Scion is going to do my oil changes free for a year ) so I was just wondering if I should be worried?

Oil change indicator.....pretty much go get your oil changed.

It flashes as a way to symbolize you need to change your oil and if they're doing it for free then get in a habit of taking it in before 5000 miles....maybe every 4000 or 3500 instead.

Just make sure its a MAN'T REQ and not a CEL.....two different things, CEL should not be flashing.....CEL flashing is bad....very bad.

it shouldnt be the check engine light flashing, its should be the maintenance required light flashing a couple times to indicate you are approaching an oil change.

Oh ok, yea it's maintenance. Thanks guys I was a little worried since it's a new car. Would I be able to go every 3k miles? I figured since Scion was paying for it I had to wait the 5k.

Just toss the question out there since you're going in anyway and say can I bring it in every 3000 or 3500 instead of 5000. I mean they either say yes or no

Your right it won't hurt to ask. If they say no I may have to do the oil changes myself. I'm used to doing them every 3k. Thanks alot guys.

I had free oil change for a year too, and every 3,000 miles I'll get my oil change from them, you don't even have to say anything to them

When you take it in for the free oil change just make sure the tech resets the maint. light.
Sometimes they forget and you might freak out over something minor. Better yet, reset it
yourself. Don't have the link handy but you can google it. I have mine set at 4K.
