Default Chevy guys rate the tC and compare to Cobalt

http://www.domestictunerz.com/lofive...hp?t12391.html

This link has an old discussion that I found fascinating... comparison of the tC to the chevy cobalt. Back then the tC was pratically unavailable, and the cobalt had more rumors than facts about it. There are several posts about the tC that are just plain wrong, and of course very few positive things said about Scion at all since they are all fans of domestics.

I didn't have the heart to tell them that most of the rides on that site are just "domestic rice"...

Let's see.. CHEVROLET... thats:

Crap
Heap
Every
Valve
Rattles
Or
Loosens
Each
Turn

and SCION:

Supremely
Cool
Is
Our
Normal

why cant we all just get along, i like the cobalt SS, i think it looks nice, and will prolly have pretty good performance (same #'s as a Red Line Ion) but too much money not enough value. If there is one thing that every review said about the tc it was great value.

they are talking about 10 horsepower, big freakin' whoop...you would barely even notice that. i would trust a toyota engine over any american built engine anyday

From what I've read the SS supercharged (apparently in '06 there will be a 4th version that is SS but normally aspirated) will make about 205 horsepower and set a buyer back about $22 grand.

So its like paying an extra 6 grand for our car with a supercharger, with a less luxurious interior, no cruise control, no sunroof, no... well it goes on and on.

The SS supercharged would be fun to ride in, fun to borrow, fun to race against, but I wouldn't want to buy one. For the money I'd rather just put a blower on the tC. Be nice if TRD gets the horsepower over 205 with it.

Kinda funney, I actually got the vibe that GM guys were speaking in the TC's favor. Like the guy that said... wait a second. the 2.4 GM engine isn't the base engine... its a upgrade.

The Scion tC looks an awful lot like the Saturn Ion to me."

this is a quote off of there board, ok this guy needs to lay off the drugs! TC does not look like the ION, and for a GM guy to say something about the ION he needs to look under the hood of a cobalt....OMG its a ion motor....lol its all GM.

Rebates lol. the tC is already underpriced for a toyota. Plus when they want to get ride of the American POS they bought and see the resale ;) Comparing these cars is easy. Supercharge the tC and you are going to be under 20,000 if you do nothing else. Get a SS cobalt and be around 20,000 after all the discounts because GM overprices there cars so they can make the customer feel they are getting a good deal with a rebate. Do what you can to race a SS cobalt. I am sure they are going to be typical GM entry level vehicles.....JUNK!

I would rather have the SRT 4 than the cobalt 40-50 more hp, and turbo which is alot of fun to drive and mopar makes some stage kits to up the power even more.
Neon>Cavalier IMO even if the cavailer is Supercharged.
i would still rather have the TC- cheaper, and cheaper on insurance, and more standard equipment.

Chevy = crap, the car will start falling apart around 60,000, the engine will start making noises around 50,000, It will not make it past 130,000. I work on GM, Ford, Dodges all day long. All I have to say is american products = crap.

Toyota = Great car, beat the crap out of the car and it will still last at least 200,000, theres too many good things to say I can't list all of them!

How many recalls does chevy have compared to toyota or honda? At least 4 times more. Thats because they say (ops we f-cked up during engineering the car. so we have to fix it.)

If you want to compare the two then compare the tc to the lower model cobalt. Tc doesn't have two models, they have one. Maybe when they come out with a sport model (i.e. type s or what ever they decide to name it) compare it then and only then to a higher model cobalt.

Cobalt 145hp 155tq

Tc 160hp 163tq

And if you dyno the two, I would bet the tc loses a lot less in the drive train than the cobalt.

If you look at the value your getting:
I customized a cobalt to try to see how much one would cost with somewhat the same options as the tc.

Cobalt cost = 16,000 ( missing a lot of the standard feat. that the tc has)
value = 10,000 car

Tc cost = 16,485
value = 22,000 car

When I say value I mean a comparable car with the features would cost with a diffent manufacture.

Chevy's aren't total crap guys, hate to break it to you. If you take good care of your car its going to last a long time. I have a 95 Monte Carlo with 171000 miles on it and it still runs strong.

Thats an older chevy. I work on chevys from 1988-2005. The 1997 and older ones where built better. The new ones suck. Drive it hard and see how long it last! I had a civic I beat the crap out of. I shifted at 6800 rpm all the time It had 171,000 and still didn't burn oil or anything. It got 44mpg highway and 36 city. The only reason I don't have the car anymore is I wrecked it.

My friend at work put it best when he said

" there is noting better that a car built by an over worked under paid employee".

Japan Auto = over worked under paid employee = excellant car

American auto = under worked over paid employee = crap

HA HA HA. Get this:

Given that the Cobalt is based on the same platform as the miserable Saturn Ion, it was easy to surpass expectations.

Excerpt taken from WardsAuto.com

OOPS- looks like some (domestic 'tards) didn't know what they were talking about.

In defense of American cars...I think American cars are getting better. But bottom line is why would you even compare a chevy cobalt to a tC. The quality of the Chevy is laughable. I put it in the same category as a Kia Rio or a Neon. Plus, Ive seen dog poo on the streets that look better than the cobalt. The cobalt is extremely ugly, just like its sibbling the cavalier. Who wants that crap anyway?

I find the comparison alone to be highly offensive to my tC. My tC deserves an apology. Its feeling is very hurt at the moment.

What gets to me is the quote-"what no rebates or incentives"-its amazing how these small minded fools think-So you really thought the car is worth 20K and you were special enough to get it at 17K-drive it off the lot and its worth 7K because its really a cheap cavalier and the GM employee got it for 12K. We here it all day in Michigan. You're an idiot if you thought that they priced the car without rebates in mind. Wake up and smell the trade in fools. Its that cheap and they know it-keep patting yourselves on the back-its the least you can do considering your driving a discount not a car.
