Default Could this be the cure for our cloth seats?

So I was cleaning the inside of my car today with my handy vinyl cleaner and I got a little sloppy with the rag and accidentally let it rub against my seat. But to my amazement my seat turned black again; the black you seat only leaving the dealership for the first time. Knowing very well that most of us are having problems with stains and ugly marks, this truly made all of it go away.

Now does anyone see anything harm done by scrubbing your seats with your dash cleaner? Personally my thought process was since the cloth is a form of plastic threads a dash cleaner which is used to clean/moisturize vinyl and plastic could actually be good for it (assuming your using the good stuff). anyway give me some thoughts on this.

What cleaner exactly were you using? Does it feel greasy? I'd be pretty reluctant to rub something like that on my seats, but I see the thinking here...

usually all that stuff will work on whatever, but with seats be careful it doesnt stain (obviously you said it made stain go away) so Im not too worried about that... Carpet cleaner would probably work, but my seats are pretty much perfect so I havent bothered cleaning. I would probably go with carpet cleaner to do the seats..

I have tried carpet cleaners, shampoos, and everything all with little results. After cleaning and the seat drying they were back to a faded/stained look. The only thing that I see could be a problem is a slight slippery feel which can be expected when rubbing a greasy solution on them. I just used any dash cleaner, though I hear meguire's is the best, I would soak a rag with it and just scrub away.

My seats looked horrible after having my dog in the car for months (problems with living situation) you can imagine what that can do to your seats, but they are perfectly black again.

Does it stay black...? I've heard from many people that you can just take a damp cloth or sponge and press on it, and it should remove all the salt and crap inside the cloth. I tried and it worked..but then 2 days later it was back again .

I'm gonna pick up some of this vinyl cleaner, what's the exact kind you used? I'll try it out and post before/after pics and update with future pictures to see if the stains come back or anything.

I'm dead serious! My brother in law is serious about his car being detailed and he took one of his cars to a detailer shop. And he asked them how they were able to get stains out of his seats and they told him "Scrubbing Bubbles." It's cheaper to buy than any automotive cleaner and works alot better. I use Scrubbing Bubbles to clean my forklift at work...grease and dust, works quite well on the plastic parts (I wouldn't trust doing that on cars.)

Not sure; I have road salt dust piling on the floor near the floormat of the driver's side. There's deep white huge stain and I think since I didn't take care of it at periods of time I might of wreck my floor. I'll try it and see how it works...if it's stays black I'll let you know. Hell, my brother's Lancer seats are faded; I'll try it on his seats

I clean it yesterday but its been black all day, I'm sure it wont last forever but my guess would be as long as it would on your vinyl so maybe a month or two.
I know people will roast me for using it but I just armorall wipes only because I had them from like a year and another car ago. Next time I did it I'm buying the meguire's stuff though (I wish it came in wipes).

Here's an update:
My seats still are as black as they were the day I rubbed the vinyl cleaner/protectant on them. I really think I solved the greatest mystery to plague the scionlife community(...no not really but close). I still havent seen or heard of any adverse effects by doing this so this could be the answer.

Yeah ,but I bet a better product would work even better (I have yet to find out). I'm cleaning my car again either today or tomorrow and I get some better product like Meguires's and see if that will work better. But as of now it still looks perfectly black.
