wish we had before and after pics. I would think that you'd sit down and after getting out of the car have marks on your clothes...

I thought so too but nothing on my dress clothes. I would personally make sure you don't leave in excess on the seats.

Does the vinyl cleaner you are using have silicone in it?

Well silicone usually always stays a little "slimey". Although you did say it was a vinyl cleaner so surely it soaks in without coming off on your hands. The reason I ask is becasue if it did have silicon in it it may cause greasy stains on your clothes?

Maybe not though?

Stains on the clothes would be bad - it seems like whatever it is, you probably want to go as light on it as possible. The seats have got to be some sort of synthetic (poly? Nylon?) so they probably don't absorb a lot of it, but either way, I'm happy someone figured this out, although I'm not ready to try it yet!

It's the same material, right? I don't see why not, although he didn't really say much about removing stains (other than like salt and stuff) - mostly just to restore the dark black color.

the restoration itself is what I meant. Thanks. Is the Armor All wipes the same thing as the vynil cleaner?

Yes I would first clean the cloth like you normally would; fortunately I don't suffer from the effect of salt like my northern friends do. I was really intending for this to be a way to restore your seat's color. I know mine had horrible splotches and water stains, all of which I tried to clean endlessly with no avail. I wouldn’t recommend using this to clean your seats but rather as a protectant.

It's funny how much traffic this post gets - you can tell people are serious car lovers and pretty knowledgeable - we're not asking what that round hole in the front bumper is, but we're posting 30 posts about how to clean the seats. Nice, people. ;)

Well I got my solution to the stained seats. The dealer just called and after 10 months of fighting the dealer and Scion there going to replace the seat covers. I guess me calling Scion corp. and the dealer every week they got tried of me lol. Now all I have to do is figure out how to keep them black. Another interestiing thing I found out, if we all band together and keep calling our dealers and make sure they record and submit it to Scion, they might recall the seats covers.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the 303 Aerospace Protectant as a great vinyl cleaner. MUCH better than AmorAll, especially since its not water based, so you wouldnt have to worry about it cracking any of your plastics or leathers over time. It was developed by NASA for use on products that are constantly in sun light, so it has UV ray protection in it, which helps to minimize fading. You most likely cant find it at a Walmart or a Meijer, or even an Autozone or O' Reilly's. You could probably find it at a specialty detail shop, or at a marine shop, since its used a lot to protect vinyls and leathers on boats.

Keeps a nice black luster, WITHOUT the greasy residue associated with some other vinyl cleaners. Kind of on the expensive side...I paid $20 for a spray bottle full (Windex sized spray bottle) But its definitely worth it, and goes a LONG way. I've detailed probably 10 cars with the bottle I have, and still probably have half the bottle left.

Oh, and one more thing...It doesnt attract dust at all, and lasts for probably 2-3 months if taken care of, as opposed to the normal 1 month or less you get out of other vinyl cleaners.

If you ever do any sort of research into those who are VERY serious about their detailing, you'll find that 303 is the way of the Pro's

"303 is the world leader in ultraviolet blocking technology for protecting fabric, vinyl, leather and rubber. Their products are used by commercial airlines, boat & yacht manufacturers, the U.S. military, the aerospace industry and Walt Disney World.

Routine treatment with 303 can virtually eliminate UV induced fading and cracking. 303's premier product, 303 Aerospace Protectant, is the world's most powerful sunscreening treatment for vinyl. It contains no petroleum solvents or silicone oils, restores lost color and leaves a surface that repels dust, dirt and oil-based stains.

303 High Tech Fabric Guard is used by Fortune 500 Companies like Walt Disney World to maintain and protect awnings, patio umbrellas, outdoor furniture, outdoor fabrics and carpeting. Routine treatment helps prevent leaking, resist fading and protect against staining. 303 High Tech Fabric Guard is recommended by Glen Raven Mills, the maker of Sunbrella awnings and Bimini tops.

303 is the World's Most Manufacturer-Recommended product"

I didn't know that, good to hear although I didn't see anything besides leather wipes at the autozone I went to yesterday.

Haven't we talked before on another forum maybe 7thgencivic?

oh and thanks for the idea of 303
