I have a cracking sound also but nothing major, you can only hear it with the radio off and the windows down, it sounds like the gears engaging, if its so loud that it sounds like the engine hitting the firewall then i'd say definately motor mounts

yeah, I agree, that's the first thing that came to mind, either front or rear or both those mounts. could also be a loose s-pipe or heatshield, but damn, it's so freaking loud, it did it last night downshifting into 2nd and my girlfriend thought I clipped the curb hard......freaking weird man!

I to have heard this but only going from 2nd to 3rd gear. Actually, my last car, a 2004 VW GTI did the same exact thing in the exact same gears, 2nd to 3rd. It seemed to only happen during aggresive shift or hasty clutching. When I concentrate on being very careful on the clutch and shifter I never hear this noise. Owned the GTI for 2 and a half years making that noise and although it's not the same car it never caused any problems.

nah its not the way everyone drives..its a problem with the tC.

the same exact thing happens on my car when i do a very fast yet perfect shift, although i would describe it more as a tick sound...

i have no idea what it is, but i have leanred to accept it as part of the car, i havent noticed any damage so far whatsoever, so lets see how it pans out.

^^ I've heard the tick sound, and it happens if I don't get the shift super perfect. It seems to happen right when the clutch engages. But at the same time, it doesn't always happen, especially if I get a super smooth shift. I dunno.

same here, it can be a perfect, and I mean perfect yet extremely quick 1-2 shift, and then BAM!......it's definately not as loud as I thought, but freaking weird...

I am having a problem where the damn thing doesn't like reverse 1/3 of the time, so I am going to take it in for all these lil things to see if the dealership thinks anything of it....doubt it, but worth a shot....still shy of 500 miles on the car,

If it doesn't want to go into reverse, I don't think its a really big problem, as long as you are standing still while you try to do so.

Two things that work 100% of the time in that case is to double clutch into reverse, or to shift into a forward gear (I usually do 2nd), then try going back into reverse.

right, but is it normal for it to not want to go into reverse? I guess that would be my questions.....standing still and just first putting the clutch in from start-up in neutral.....just wondering if you guys have the problem like 1/2 or 1/3 of the time, where even trying to do it right, it just stops 1/2 way to the gear....

Thanks

Juan

Same noise here in an '06 with 5500 miles. I thought it was a motor mount or strut, nice to hear that it seems to be normal for the car. Still it would be nice to make it go away. I've only heard it once though. Worried me.

This sounds like an exhaust leak to me.. Probably between the s-pipe and midpipe.. Or between the header and s-pipe.

Periodically, yes. It's just due to the position of the synchros at the time of engine shut off. It shouldn't do this ALL the time, but periodically it will. It's the nature of the beast you might say.

Alright, Yeah, that seems to be the case, it's every once in a while, 1 in 3, at times it feels like 1 in 2, but it's probably closer to 1 in 5.....I'm not too worried, but I am gonna stay on the safe side and take it in for everything.

Have you tried the manual fluid swap from stock to Redline MT-90? That helped mine out a whole lot and made it really smooth. The synchros "work" much easier b/c there's less stress/friction on them from the shifter.

Sweet, sure will, I'll get that done this weekend....didn't even think about it, I love redline....always use Heavy Shockproof in the SR20 trannies, good stuff...

Should I use MT-90 or Lightweight Shockproof?
