Default Creak when you turn off your car

This is not a complain so save your flamethrowers... This is my first Brand new car and im not sure if this is normal or not.

Whenever i turn my car of off, then start washing my car, i hear like a creak or a pop bellow the engine area. Just wanted to know if this is common . Anybody else experienced this?

Yeah! I have heard that on mine also. It is pretty loud. It does that even though I dont wash it. At first I freaked out. Called the dealer and said it is normal. I hope sure it is normal!

yea a warning tag came in my glove box that said it was a fan or something that had to do with a fuel evaporation check or something. I think what you are hearing creaking is the aluminum shield that goes over your exhaust manifold under the hood, that thing has enough surface area to start cooling down and creaking and poping quite quickly. -Matt

creaking and popping is from the metal contracting, usually from the exhaust manifold, and the catalytic converter.. if you have to time after you drive the car, pop the hood and sit and watch.. you'll hear the popping coming from that big barrel connected to the exhaust manifold.. that's the catalytic converter..

no worries, it's normal.. most new cars do this.. after 6 months maybe a year at most.. it stops.. things break in..

don't worry, your car is fine.. i actually like that new popping noise.. call me weird.. lol

Thats not fully true. We have a 1994 Ford Ranger truck & when you drive it hard you get this sound. It is the metal contracting & cooling off. If you have a car that has a Iorn Block & Aluminum Heads it will last longer because the heads will cool faster then the block but the radiate the heat to the heads so it keeps it going for a while longer. It is normal so dont worry about it.

not true eh? too bad you're not here listening to my car, or any other car i've ever owned.. and yes it's coming from the cat.. too bad the cat get's hotter quicker and cools off faster than the engine.. welcome to physics

you actually THINK that Ford did you a favor with iron block and an aluminum head? that is hilarious.. let me see, physics 101.. aluminum heats up quicker than iron.. hmm.. which means iron heats up slower.. so while the aluminum is heating up.. oh that's good.. eventually a cracked head.. yeah.. and if you try to defend it.. I have grown up in detroit and have seen many 80's and 90's fords with this setup and all of these cars end up with needing heads being replace.... Ford merely tried to save money.. bad set up.. escorts, topaz are a few that come to mind.. so for you to say it's an awesome set up.. i guess you don't want to face the fact that an all aluminum engine is THE way to go.. i wonder if that's why honda and toyota use this design.. hmmm.. face it.. Ford is living in the past..

and to say that a cooler head will last longer is the funniest thing i've ever read.. while that's cooling off quick and the iron block isn't.. yeah i can just see over time the head eventually giving up.. welcome to a cracked head.. worst set up in the history of the car! Ford's engineers are smoking crack..

Did I say it was awesome? I was going off of you saying most cars stop this after 6 months. I have no clue what set up that damn ranger has, I was using it as a example. I know my chevy has that set up & it does not make any sounds like that. Also back to the ford if its coming from the cat then why is the sound loudest in the engine compartment (talking about the ranger now)? That thing has 1 cat mounted under the car. Did I say the head would last longer? nope. You just need to stop trying to read between the lines. I know the engineers are smoking something just look at the focus. They say the new beetle looks like a bug, I find the Focus looks more like one.

sorry yeah i went off.. i apologize.. just got angry about all the old fords.. lol.. my bad.. lol

yeah it might be other stuff creaking in his engine i admit.. on mine personally it's the cat doing all the noise like it has been before.. but it could be other things too.. for me it ends about 6 months to a year later..

Thats ok. I see how you could think I ment the head would last longer. I should have said the sound might last longer with this set up. That is nice to have it end that fast. I knew a guy back in high school who had a nissan se-r v spec but he did near red line shifts all the time so that engine got heated up. When ever he parked it sounded like a pop corn machine

hahaha.. that would've been wild to see.. i know sport bikes do that a lot.. high revving.. they click and pop for awhile..

yeah the new focus looks strange alright.. but hey maybe someday Ford will wake up.. but then again we have Scion.. they're already awake.. i know i'm happy toyota actually noticed this market..
