Default Custom license plates..

How are they 'taken'?

I'm curious to know if one plate in California on a truck would invalidate the same plate in a different state on a different model vehicle.

I had a couple idea's.. I think I'm going to go with:

8 UR SI

APEX

HORDE

or

KEK

Plates are individual by state. So two people in different states can have the same plate.

and you can probably check online at the state's DMV site to see if they are already taken.

i just went to the tax office and had a couple of sayings made up. they just plug it in the database and tell you if they're taken or not.

I ended up getting

1 CLN TC

NY is awesome for plates... you can go online and actually see what is available and it will show you exactly what your plate will look like.

The rest of the DMV site sucks though, you can't pay your registration or anything like that online yet. Or renew anything. That was probably the one and only thing I ever missed about living in PA...

It varies from state to state, and from license plate to license plate. For example, in Texas personal plates range from free (medal of honor/veteran plates) to $60-80 (universities and the such). A plain personalized plate costs $40.

My initials are NV, so when I got my car and was one of the first in MI to have a tC, I wanted to get NVMYTC. Kinda like a play on words, but I was afraid it would come of arrogant and inviting for some _______ to key the car.
