Now I know why I stay in the F/I section. I just hope you don't get the idea to make intercooler, and charge pipes out of PVC...

Now the only problem with homemade is you dont have anywhere to put the air sensor. I had a friend who installed a cold air on his mazda 3 , and didnt put the sensor on. The car would drive, but then promptly stall thinking there was no air...

i agree with the doc. metal is a horrible material to make an intake out of. think of it this way. heat is energy and energy remains the same in a system. in our scenario, the system is the engine bay with the hood closed. the underhood temperature rises, every material inside the hood will begin to heat up. aluminum is much better heat conductor than PVC so it will heat up faster. because aluminum is such a great conductor, it also cools down fast. where does the heat go? by the laws of thermodynamics, heat doesn't dissipate back to a hotter enivonment because it will require energy, it will want to go to a lower energy environment such as the air inside of the intake pipe. this is exactly what's going on when you start to drive off. all the heat taken up by the aluminum is transferred to the cooler air coming in. so when you open the hood and feel ur metal intake pipe, it feels cool, but really it's not a good thing.

IMO, you can't change the underhood temperature, but you can control the IAT inside the intake pipe. the way to do this is to wrap the pipe with a very heat insulative material that can act as a very effective barrier between the environment and the intake pipe. in theory, the insulation itself will have a slow rate of heatsoak and cooling where the cooling characteristics is what we really care about.

The optimal material to make an intake out of would be one so dense that it is difficult to change it's relative temperature, like granite or marble. Kinda impractical, though.

I just don't understand,(being bored or not) why someone would but plumbing materials in their vehicle, and possibly risk engine damage or something of that nature. Im all about being different, and I don't hat on anyones car, but this draws a fine line.

looks like **** honestly, sorry but it does.

I tried that on my first car a KIA RIO, back in 02. Lets just say I gave up on that and made an actual metal piping one.

The only diff between yours and a name brand?

well lets see it looks better
hmm theres the looks

oh and the thousands of dollars of R&D the companies put into it to maximize air flow efficiency. If anything I bet your losing power with that

1000s dollars spent on a patent yes, and you pay hundreds for that CARB legal sticker.

mmm no there are no carb legal parts for the tc.

it is on patent, but what you think a couple of block heads put the intake together and said, "this will do"?? no

they research air flow, cfm's, turbulance. and a lot of other stuff i dont know about
